Man, tolex is kind of a bitch! But this is addictive. I've got a matching 4x10 in the works...

Very cool, I want a headshell for my Mark IV, but can't find one anywhere.

WOW! Post pics of your matching cab when done. What kind of wood did you use?

Thanks guys - I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out considering it was my first try. The wood was easy but the tolex was definitely learn-as-I-went. Lots of four-letters words.

The head is pine. Half-blind dovetails which were nice because once you get the jig dialed in, the pieces fit together tight and square. No cleats or screws or anything necessary, just glue. The cab will be birch ply - same color scheme, just an inch or two wider and a little deeper. I was going to do pine again but I couldn't find any nice flat pieces at the store.

I just grabbed a pair of alnico 10-inchers off TGP for the cab. I might make it a detuned cab with two speakers and two empty holes, or search for a second pair of speakers.

Dude, excellent job!!

I built 2 cabs a couple of years ago but I did not tolexed them, I just stained the birch and I got told they looked pretty nice, but your job is top notch my friend, very great looking head!

The next one will be petrified Chilean Lenga with Liberace's face inlaid in hand-harvested pink coral.

That's awesome!! What did it look like before?

It looked like a 1x12 combo! But the combo tone wasn't really there. Much better as a head/cab.

For reference, this is a "real" Naylor head cab:

I don't like the plastic handle and the piping around the front face, which gets cut off and left open there at the edges of the control panel cutout. So I went with the fake leather handle, no piping, and a little more of the grille area above the controls.
