You guys ever seen or heard these 3x12 cab's before from 3rd Power Amplification? I just picked one up and thought i'd share. Really liking it so far. The removable triangle port on the back is actually kind of cool. I was looking for a smaller cab with a lot of tight bottom end and this beat out the 2x12 cabs I was originally gassing for. This things rocks

How do you work out the impedence deal on that thing brah?

My guess is that not all the speakers have the same impedance. It looks like the cab is 8 ohms (hard to read it clearly on the input jack). So, maybe two 8 ohm speakers in series and a third 16 ohm speaker in parallel to those? Of course, a 16 ohm cab could be had using two 16 ohm speakers in parallel and then running that into an 8 ohm speaker in series. Rather curious to say the least.

Ok, have to say this seriously looks cool as fuk lol! How much and where to get?!;)

That looks really great, and I'm sure it sounds awesome, glad to see they changed to a traditional square cab. I don't think the original triangle 3x12's ever really caught on. I think the inside of yours is still a triangle to cut down on standing waves and reflections..

must be 2 8ohm speakers in series with eachother = 16ohms

then take that circuit and put it in parallel with a 16 ohm speaker = 8 ohms total

Is that actually any smaller than a 4x12? Certainly has extra screws, how much weight and space are you actually saving here?

Thanks guys... I did some Googling and the speakers are wired in parallel with 16 ohm speakers so the cab is 8ohms. I don't think this style cab is still being made. I bought it brand new but its old. The shop owner bought the actual cab + matching head from a NAMM show. Did some youtube searching and my guess is from a 2011 NAMM.

As for size and weight, yeah it is a little smaller than a 4x12. It was almost the same size as a Bogner 2x12 I almost bought. Here is a pic from the day I was testing cabs, you can see it's size vs other various cabs for comparison.

Also found this pic from some old review for the cab http://musicplayers.com/reviews/guitars/2011/0711_3rdPower_SB312.php

Mismatching impedance within the cab means mismatching how much power goes to each speaker. Doesn't seem like a good idea to me. Couldn't find anything on their web site.

Yup, exactly. Inside is a triangle box/cab within a square cab. You can see the the screws on the back outlining the triangle shape inside. The port on the back reminds of this

I mentioned in the other thread, these cabs sound awesome. The sound is huge and tight. I played a Friedman naked thru one and it killed. Too bad they don't make them anymore and they didn't catch on. They were fairly pricey I think. One of the best I've played through.

I found a 2011 discussion and looks like the member "vain_guitarist" is from 3rd power.. in that link below he goes into detail on voltages and impedance if you are curious.

In that thread the 3rd power rep says these 3x12 cabs have an impedance of 5.3 ohms, and that 3rd power amps run a custom MM transformer to operate safely at 8 ohms (mismatch) with this cab. However, for safety you should probably set your amp to 4 ohms to minimize the mismatch.

Hmm.. I need to find my multi-meter check the ohms and confirm this. :(

-did ya try the mode 4 cab?

I did actually, awhile ago... I was originally thinking of getting that to match my Mode Four head (yes I have one lol) just for shits and giggles. I thought it sounded ok but thought it had a slightly darker and muddier tone than I was looking for.
