It makes the argument murky. If the complaint is that all these people are coming in to America and we have no way to track them, a state issued driving license seems like a good start.
I’d much prefer the Latin American way where everyone knows politicians and cops are corrupt. The pretense here is excruciating and the majority of us are too dumb to notice or too stubborn to admit.
The problem with it becomes spending most of your day at the dmv just to register your vehicle because everyone is looking for the payday. This is why nothing gets done in central and south america.
