My sister had half a day to explore Seattle and nearly got attacked.

Sad what our country has become. But there’s always been bad sections of cities that even locals avoid. Until what- the past 10-15 years…Seattle seemed like a great place to visit. I have a buddy who lives out there and he loves it. Little bit of the granola has rubbed off on him but he’s still pretty squared away. Not sure where he’s at exactly but most of his neighbors are ex military like him. No foolishness in their area.
Agreed. I went there 4 or 5 times on business back in the early '90's before it got a reputation as a drug infested homeless camp. But outside of Seattle - Bainbridge Island, Mt Olympia, Mt Rainier, Snoqualmie Falls, Leavenworth - are extremely beautiful. My wife and I want to go camping up there sometime.

Online, these laws will apply to anyone, anywhere who vilifies a person in Victoria, although the government acknowledges that this may be difficult to enforce.
I suspect the globalists will increasingly try to use these sorts of laws as a way around first amendment protections here. I doubt anyone will get extradited, but can see it being used as an excuse by platforms and also chilling speech to the extent it's an unknown. I've wondered about it on this platform for that matter, as I heard it's French owned.

Better watch out thumbpicker.

Victorians could go to prison for up to five years for hate speech under new anti-vilification laws proposed by the Victorian Government.

Under the proposed laws, it would be an offence to “incite hatred against, serious contempt for, revulsion towards or severe ridicule” of a person or group based on their sex, gender identity, or race.

It's not vilification if it's true. We recently had a Chinese man throw coffee over a new born baby and he got away and fled the country. The media got roasted for not identifying his race because how else do you be on the look out for him. Later the media identified his race. Think about pollice profiling.... eg. US cop show.... "BOLO for Caucasian male" etc... how else do you know what you are looking for. So not vilification.... it is what it is... language identifying the person who did it.

Not calling you out whatsoever, just asking. I reread this and think the thread title is a little misleading. She was not almost attacked. I don't think it was after midnight was it? And Pine St is a lot closer to Pikes Market than the Chihuly museum. They are like 12 blocks apart at least. Not saying she didn't do that. I would have Uber'd as I agree there are lots of pockets of homeless and drug users all throughout that area. As a matter of fact, I think I saw that women you are referring to on Pine St last summer when I was there. It is a rather steep street as you move away from the bay. She was talking to herself (and traffic) a lot. We actually drove by her several times going to Pikes Market. She's harmless. She has mental issues/drug dependencies (guessing) that when combined, make her a little psychotic. Tell your sister not to take it personally. I'm not sure how old she is but walking 12+ blocks in the heart of an urban place like that that already has a reputation is really not advised. I personally would not walk 12 blocks in any major city on this planet including my own (even if I was carrying). :dunno:
It was about 4:30pm in the afternoon. I wondered what time it was and asked her when I was talking to her. I walk 60-90 minutes every day. When my wife and I were in Paris we literally walked the whole city. You aren't going to see it in a car. If you dropped me in Seattle I wouldn't know where the bad spots are but maybe I wouldn't have been as naive as her. She told me it all looked fine and then she was told to go down Pine street on google maps and then things started to look seedy so to speak. So she got surprised by how quickly it went from normal to weird. That's my impression from the conversation I had. I had a look on google maps just now and said Chihuly gardens to pine street and it's only 1.3 miles - a 22 minute walk. I'm going to walk that far to church this morning. Not worth getting the car out for that.

I knew you were gonna argue that, but that's not how it will work. They will make it mean whatever they want to mean, especially including if the "racism" is true. Haven't you head of "hate facts"? Regardless, not only will "Hate" be disallowed, but so will any expression of 'Revulsion, contempt, or ridicule' towards these protected groups.

Well you know what - I don't "hate" the woman that followed my sister however she was black and that's a fact... Nor is it revulsion, contempt or ridicule. It is what it is.

I know that. I'm saying that's not how it will work. You think the people implementing these laws are operating in good faith and give a crap about nuance, let alone logic. They're out to dominate and control mate.

I'm still waiting on you to post your vegemite taste test!

It's not fine dining mate! it's what millions of kids had on their lunch at school for years and years (and adults liked it too). so don't get your hopes up too high lol
The vegemite review is going to be a well curated, well thought out review. I have taken all suggestions into consideration from the resident Australians as far as toast, spread, butter and other.

Thumbpicker: You'd better abide by the laws of Utah
Acceptance: I don't live in Utah.
Thumbpicker: I don't live in Victoria.
