Compared to all the death metal and shit coming out these days where vocalists sound like they are taking one up the ass, I think MK is exceptional. Good front man, spot on pitch, hard worker and can play guitar to boot.
Amen.

I'd still take Axl trying to push out the notes. He had his own thing going on at least. He screeched vs singing through his nose with that awful vibrato. Axl does suck too though don't get me wrong! I think the issue among the main stream now is that there are less guys who can sing. Back in the 80's there were a ton of solid singers in hair bands. Now, of what gets played on the radio, you've got emo punksters, people singing like Nickleback, or people not singing in a rock style. When you have a few that do, they get air time. This is the case here. Slash could have found someone better but maybe he would not have been able to find a professional who shows up day after day and works. He's probably had his fill of junkies (Snakepit singer, Wheland etc..) and didn't want to deal with it anymore.

no.
what gets played on the radio is pure marketability.

looks/image first
talent a far second
musicianship and performance talent a far 3rd

i'd guess that every "classic" rock star band pre 1990 wouldnt even get a look by labels these days.

they dont want talent, they want carrie underwood, taylor swift, aimee lee, myles kennedy, bieber, etc etc etc, and they want them to sing the tried and true clear channel formatted song stylings. or, some rehashed version of a band that was successful in the past, but only for profit margin...not to please a listener in ANY manner.

Truer words were never spoken! Couldn't have said it better myself.

What I get from threads like this is.....everything sucks. This band sucks, that band sucks, they used to be good but suck now. This guy's a douche and can't sing, yada yada yada. There's hardly any good rock bands left putting out albums and the one's that do get shit on by other "impress me" guitar players. I guess the negative train is getting tired, I'll even lighten up on Kirk Hammet from now on.

Agreed.
I agree as well...it's like when I was a kid and an older dude would tell me how much my hair metal sucked, and thrash was just a bunch of no talent screaming, and there were no good bands left since Zeppelin broke up. Of course now I'm that old guy...everytime someone bashes Ratt, I have this immediate negative reaction like "go stew in your misery music", at least we had fun and some great riffs. But I sound just as dickish if I start whining about screamo this and cookie monster that.

So on a question like, what do I think about Myles, I have an opinion based on his voice for what it is, not so much "he's one of the few guys out there anymore" (which yet again is completely bunk unless you exclusively listen to mainstream radio, there are so many rockers in this style that may not be commercially huge but not so hard to find in this modern interwebz era).

Not sure what a man "taking one up the ass" sounds like. I'll just have to take your word for it....

Myles has great range but he sounds the same singing everything. I can take his voice for awhile but then I gotta move on. First time I saw him I thought it was Kevin Bacon with long hair.

Too much sissy boy singing in this thread.

I'd take
Jim Morrison, Mark Lanegan, Chuck Ragan, Chris Wollard

total nasal singer....probably snagged from some karaoke bar or wedding band cause of her "image"....

sorry, that chick's a TOTAL miss as far as im concerned....pitchy, nasally, breathy, and lacks the ballsy voice she's always seemingly struggling to achieve.

Man, are you for real? Maybe it is you who is nasal, it is certainly not her   Lacks ballsy voice, yes riiight. She has the energy Myles will never have, you know, rock'n roll dangerous. Myles is ok, just not Axl or heavy.

just my observations dude. maybe she had an off night. i dont care about her "formatted" and "label" created attitude and energy. these days, every onstage performer is trying so hard to be "different", being different turns out that it's just going out and doing your thing.

sorry, she's trying too hard. and im not about to over credit her due to her vagina either, that seems to prevailent these days regarding female "rockers". she's nothing special.

I think he's talented enough I just don't care for the combo of him and legacy G&R tunes.

Let's agree to disagree, this discussion was about Myles anyway ;) . He really is a good vocalist, but (I think) lack a little of that "desperation" I like in heavy rock.

I can listen to him a little bit, but I'm probably more among the people that find him annoying.....especially within the higher registers.

If you don't like it don't listen to it! Why bash? People who sing don't hide behind an instrument they are out there naked and use their body as an instrument. Try it some time it isn't that easy. Just like guitar players all like different guitars, pick ups, strings, amps and speakers ad nauseum all singers sound different thank god/buddha/jehova or what have you. Seems that since HC is dead all the posts that would have gone on there have moved here. Give the guy a break Myles ain't Axl and for that I give my left nut. The world is a better place with just one Axl Rose. Carry on.

Not a fan of him or Alterbridge. That entire genre with their little pop-production is horrible, in my opinion. :D
Shinedown, Hinder, Theory of Deadmen or whatever......nah
Yeah, when I hear Myles or any of the above bands on the radio I turn the station. I love those Gnr tunes but hearing a safe, boring guy singing those tunes just isn't a good fit. He is about as dangerous as a wet paper bag and I don't dig his voice either. He seems more like a singer from American idol or something of that genre. That being said, I have always liked slash and understand why he would want to play it safe with a reliable, professional singer. I saw axl live not that long ago and his voice was great and show was a blast.

So do these guys suck as well?

Yeah they sound like what Nickelback would sound like if you locked them in a room with nothing but AC/DC albums to listen to for 6 months.

Friggin hell... haven't stopped by here in a while and THIS is the faggotry I stumble into when I do???

Like his voice or not, to say he "sucks" is pure idiocy (for those who did say that). He is an awesome vocalist AND guitar player! There's a reason he's such an in-demand performer. He'd instantly multiply the talent in the band of ANY of his critics here (that's ASSuming his critics even play in a band, versus collecting gear in their basements).

Cripes... the internet is just so full of empty-headed bullshit sometimes I have to do a double-take.

Its funny how we are all so different. I like Miles and I think he is one of the better singers in rock today. But I can understand if he is not your thing. I'll take him over the new screaming doom garbage (my opinion) any day. Personally my favorite singer in Metal is Roy Khan (retired) from Kamelot. His voice is amazing in my opinion.

Nice bud! (See my sig.)

I've been a fan of Roy for many years and the metal world lost an awesome voice when he retired. I must say that Tommy's voice sounds close to Roy's at times though. I just don't care for their newer material though. Epica and The Black Halo were their pinnacle.

Having seen them several times.. met and hung out with AB several times... They are about THE coolest guys on the rock scene right now.

And like him or not.. Myles is a MONSTER singer.
