It's been awhile since I had a 400 in the stable.Saw this one wasting away in a store so it now can hang with its bro,the 500.It needs some cleaning, owner claims low hrs on the str 420s,( was hoping it had 415s). Powers up and runs fine The only problem I have is no room in the rack for it- out goes the 2 tc1128s,and the 20/20,+ 1 empty space = 4.All good.Extremely busy gigging right now but hope to A/B with the 500.

Looks great!
For some reason I always remember what Bob B was saying about those, something like "we used to call them tragedy 400" :ROFLMAO: and wondered why? Reliability issue or something else?
I've always been curious about those big Mesa power amps, never played one.

Idk.ive never had my 500 go down.cant speak for the 400.We'll see.Last night I ran signal thru it for hrs and just left it running like that ,checking tubes every 45 min or so.Seemed all good.
I can tell you the 500 gut punches hard. Its tight, wide, and much more aggressive than thier 292 or 50.I remember the 400 being like that too. This is running a quad or triaxis thru it.When I get time I'm gonna slave my og iic+ or mkiii coli into the 400 and see what happens. I recall that's how these 400s were used back in the day- to add more cabs...

Woah! Awesome, dude. How does it hold up against the 500? Do you see yourself keeping both?
