Beast!!

Congrats!
From what I've read, and others that have compared, the 400 is a little beefier due to a more straightforward circuit. Metallica chose the 400 over the 500 based on tonal differences supposedly. But I have no doubt the 500 is also a beast. I've only had the 400...almost cracked the windows way back when I slaved a SRG C+ through 4 cabs....holy hell what power.

Vai used them in his Whitesnake era - quote from his website:

Vai.com said:
These Marshalls were used as preamps only, the power came from the Mesa
Boogie power amps seen below. In the left of this picture is a Yamaha PC2002M
power amp, and in the background you can see Steve’s guitar closet.

From top to bottom, a Rane SM26 mixer, two Soldano amp heads (backup only)
with the name “Schiller” on the front (Stan Schiller was Steve’s guitar tech at the time),
and 2 Mesa Boogie Strategy 400 power amps used for the Marshalls above.

Nice!!!! I'm gonna try my og iic+ hrg slaved out to the 400 with 4 cabs and see what happens.
I'm seeing a pattern taking shape with these holy grail poweramps: it seems as tho the 400 & 500,and the m190 were crowning achievements that never have been topped.Kinda like the vht 2150 and classic. It's like they set a standard with those power amps and to this day they never topped them.

The 400 is in its permanent home.No more room.It took many years but power amp rack is now done.........but is it ever? 😉

Holy living hell, that's incredible! What else could you put in there, even if there was room? I think you've got everything covered. Like you said earlier, those are the standards that no one has been able to top yet, especially the Strategy 500 and the 2150. That rack's gotta weigh over 500 lbs., and worth every ounce! Just awesome!!

I love thats stuff we just don't have the room anymore.

Haha.Ya,That rack would be tough getting in the backseat of my car.Believe it or not,I gigged with both racks and 4- 4x12s for years.W/D/D/W. I miss those years.

Oh, I believe it! My gig rack wasn't quite as big and I only had 2 4x12s, but it was worth it and not nearly as bad as our bass players rig, I'd do it all over again, I miss those years, too. :rawk:

It's been awhile since I had a 400 in the stable.Saw this one wasting away in a store so it now can hang with its bro,the 500.It needs some cleaning, owner claims low hrs on the str 420s,( was hoping it had 415s). Powers up and runs fine The only problem I have is no room in the rack for it- out goes the 2 tc1128s,and the 20/20,+ 1 empty space = 4.All good.Extremely busy gigging right now but hope to A/B with the 500.View attachment 450313
