I like the heads better than combos but MESA heads & cabs are 8 ohms & not compatible with my 16 ohm Marshall cabs.

Same with Mark II & III's

8ohm head is compatible with a 16 ohm cab. ;) I run my Mark 4 through a Marshal 16 ohm 4x12 and it kills.

Yup!!!! Mesa calls it a safe mismatch.

I concur. I just got one recently and dig it as much or more than any amp I've ever had. 35 years of buying, selling and trading amps. Stunning.
I've only used it at a handful of gig's but it sounds killer. It's excels at everything.
Congrats!

This is encouraging feedback. I just scored a Mark III Blue Stripe Coliseum (different, yes, but not exceedingly) and am looking forward to blowing some walls down.

So last night I had this thing roaring.
I've found the key to balancing the high gain mids really is that Lead Treble knob. Too much and you're in cocked wah territory. Too little and there's not enough. But when she's dialed in, Lord have mercy!!

love my mark iv wont ever sell it just sounds too great..enjoy

My old MK3 Blue Stripe was so raw. Killer sound. I wanna buy it back.
The MK4 to me does everything the 3 did, but better, while sounding just a touch more refined, like it's been mixed and mastered really well.
I'm in love with this amp.

A good Mark and a good Marshall...can't go wrong. Congrats!

Now I need to go get another one. BTW, I ran my Mark IV into my Uberkab (16ohm) all the time.

The Mesa Mark IV is my Favorite amp of all time, after trying many different high end amps including Diezel, Bogner, Peters, Driftwood, EVH 5050 III, etc (all awesome amps!) I just ended up going back to the Mesa Mark IV, it was the amp for me.

I am on my third Mark IV and I plan to keep this one. Although I am very interested in the JP2C which I plan to get later this year I will not be selling my Mark IV it.

Enjoy the amp! It is versatile and fun to play.

I've had a shit load of Mark series as well. As much as I liked the IIC+ amps I've owned I doubt I'll shell out the cash for another since, I feel, the IV I have gets me damm close. It just does take a bit of tweaking. There were a few times I felt like selling it but then tried some different approaches and was happy.

With all the Mark IV owners here, has anyone noticed differences is sound between different amps? Other than rev A and rev B?
My first Mark IV was a short head that sounded like total crap. I could not get a decent sound out of it.Could not get rid of it quick enough. Then I traded for my current widebody Mark IV a few years later and it sounded like god in a box the second I turned it on. Are there good ones and bad ones?

I had a 1994 or 1995 short mark iv (A/B, attached power cord, outlet and B FX loop) and it did sound different than both the newer B 2001 and 2004(?) models i had. My buddy just sold his 1994 short head (also an A/B) and it also sounds different than my 2001 that I currently own.

I would say the differences were subtle, I feel like the newer ones are a little more smooth and slightly more scooped with more bottom end. I guess there is also the tube brands to keep in consideration but the differences still seemed about the same IMO. Channel 2 is a little better with more gain. I wouldn't let an older one deter me from playing/owning one

Maybe the couple I've played needed service, but they weren't vicious at all. Old school high gain. A lil hotter than a jcm 800 to me. Couldn't stand it. But then again the triaxiis was the only Boogie I've ever liked at all. I'm not a good judge for these amps. I don't care for the "American" thing. I'm a el34 man myself

True.
However at that point in my life all I cared about was Def Leppard and Lego.

Where were you when they came out 30 years ago ?
I was 8 years old haha.

This hardly strikes me as a valid excuse.

Interesting.
Mine gets up to JCM800 levels on R2.
Lead channel is just nuts.

Either you weren't setting the knobs right or something was wrong. A Mark IV has a ton more gain than a JCM800. I can get along just fine without using my Tube Screamer on my Mark IV. If you set a Mark IV like a Marshall it's going to sound like a barrel full of ass. Look at my settings above.

Agreed. I've had plenty of JCM 800's and they have a 1/4 the gain of the MKIV on the third channel. I'm not comparing the two. Different animals. Love 800's, but to say they have a 'lil more gain than an 800 is just silly. The IV is monstrous.
