Traded my Cornford for this one. What a great amp! Much more traditional/organic than the BE. Both channels are killer. Sounds great with a Strat or LP...great loop and takes pedals like a champ!

It's got that "thing" doesn't it? Couldn't be happier with mine...ended my GAS.

Yes Sir...the "thing" is reason that this is Dave's favorite amp.

how do you like it compared to the dirty shirley?

Define "organic" please...what specifically makes it more organic than the BE? Thanks

Mine just arrived today, but I have not unboxed it yet. Can't wait!

Is it the second channel that's more organic than the BE? Hehehe

I love both my BE & SS just as much. All are killer amps. The Smallbox is just different in that it feels and sounds more open, clear, raw, and vintage. It's not quite as saturated as the BE, but retains that sustain with a special mid-range quality. Hope that helps.

The Plexi channel is just killer....awesome platform for pedals as well. I think both channels have a really cool raw vintage thing going on.

The SB sounds more like a Marshall than the BE especially in the mids.

One thing I did to mine was to replace the stock Ruby-JJ in V1 with an ARS Chinese 12ax7. That worked out really well and gave me more of the tone that I really dig...

has anyone tried the SB and the Dirty Shirley? a lot of the descriptions of the SB (i.e. more open, raw, vintage, organic) are what i thought the shirley was, also...

are they pretty similar but the Smallbox having more gain at hand?

I have not played the DS. Hopefully someone else who has will chime in...

I've owned both. The DS has less gain and is looser on the bottom. Is more of a JTM style amp with a tube rectifier. It's takes pedals great and works awesome with the guitars volume. It's a great amp if that's what you're looking for. For me the SB is the winner though.

Just played my SB for about an hour tonight. Definitely had a smile on my face the whole time.

Dump the JJ's in the power section too. I threw in a set of Winged C's and it really opened up the amp.
