Except for the caps, I think the reissue 800's are made better than the old ones. The wiring is neater, the boards are made closer to spec thanks to modern technology. Great amps!
Ya know, I don't think they would be able to do much about these caps, I think they were used pretty extensively from way I've seen. Maybe bad luck or maybe it sat for years without getting turned on. I think that could do it too.

Got another clip thru my other cab with Scumback j75 x v30, and my flux drive. It gets pretty mean.

That amp sounds killer as is brother, great tone!!!!!

The old recipe just works

Some people tend to think that his mods make an amp sound like bees in a can or very solid state and harsh. (comments I have read on other forums) It is all a matter of taste I suppose. To my ear, i am not a huge fan of the FJA mods but metal guys probably dig that grind. One thing that struck me is that if you didn't get this amp for metal, why bother sending it for mods? Leave it stock, you have the splawn for the high gain. Besides, if you want high gain with that amp, hit it with an SD-1 + another SD-1 with just the level up or an EQ.
Ic, yeah, I tend to gravitate to the metal side, so I like his mods. I gotta admit though, I really like this amp the way it is. I haven't hit it with my boosts I use for metal, so I'm still dialing it in. I only got it a couple days ago, did the cap job the other night in a coffee filled rage, lol.

Thats crazy, I have a JCM800 RI landing this monday. Mine is going to Dan Gower:)
Haha great minds my friend, lol. I always thought Dan was across the pond, is he in the US?

Dan is in the UK.
Isn't the round trip shipping alone prohibitive? I figured it was mostly for the UK guys, but I would love to try his work.

I sent my JCM800 (1983 2203) to Dan last year and got the KK++ mod. This thing kicks major ass!!

Very nice , i would love to have one of these to go with my Soldano .

I bet man, I've talked to a few guys I trust that love his work. I'll keep it in mind, but that's probably something I would have to find used in the states. Do want though! I'm really liking this thing thru my mills cab right now though, it's going to be hard to send it out at this point.

Thanks, it should be no surprise then that I would love a soldano to go with this jcm. :D

Amazing sounds Erock and congrats for your deal!! I really like the sound with the chandler boost! It is a germaniun boost?

sounds great! I got several Marshall platform amps, now I gotta do some research on that fluxdrive!

You might be on to something regarding those bulging caps and the half power switch... that's what I thought, one yes maybe, but two?? suspicious indeed. Did someone take away the bright cap on the volume pot? hard to tell

sounds killer as usual bro... I would not be surprised if that half power switch has something to do with those caps buldging. who knows who did that mod and if it was done properly

Sounds really good, why mod it ?? Lose the half power switch and use pedals for that metal tone. Done!

Thanks man! It's so much better in the room than the cam can capture too, lol. Really impressed with this thing. The chandler is the little devil colored boost. Would love to try the germanium though, the red is one of my favorites!

It's a really fun boost man, it does stuff to the lows and mids that seems to sweeten everything up. I'm really curious to try the flux with eq now.

Thanks Mark. I think you guys are right, I'm gonna have to really inspect it closely, and possibly post some pics for help. Guess I'm going to have to talk to some gurus.

Yeah, the longer I get to play it, the less things I could even think of to change. I may have to look for another donor, lol.

Great sounding videos/clips!!

I've had a lot of amps and a 800 with boost has almost always won out, just the voicing I prefer.

Thanks for sharing, love the sound, for me!

Another cool clip with the fluxdrive, instant metal tones! Seems a bit more sissle to it than the other OD, but that is hard to tell with youtube. Listening to these clips, I would certainly not mod it. What is left to improve with what you have now?

Thanks man! You know, I did not expect to like this amp as much as I do, but I'm really digging the amp as is. The string clarity across the board is great, love how every note in a chord rings out, flubs and all, lol. I can tell why these are such popular recording amps, the sound cuts like a knife.

Yeah man, I'm enjoying what it's bringing to the table as is, I'll find something else to jack with. The flux really does make anything metal, lol. I'm dying to try the new one with graphic eq too, the active eq on the original is already very powerful.

sounds nice, i like both clips.
nothing wrong with a boosted marshall, especially a 2203.
you dont really need to do anything other than add a boost, doesnt need modded unless you have a certain sound you want.

Look at that PCB... seems almost transparent
Modern Marshalls are notorious for their cheap boards
If I had to get one of those modded, I'd have it completely rewired PTP
Everybody should have an 808

Damn, didn't notice that before, but you're right! It does look transparent, lol.
Oddly it doesn't feel as flimsy as a lot of boards I've looked at, it doesn't flex or anything, and no sockets or pots/jacks are wired directly to it. I've heard the same rumors for years though. That actually would be a fun project however, it looks like a very simple circuit. I've seen tons of schematics around too.

Stumbled upon this:

Looks pretty cool. Obviously this is a long term project. The PCB is not going to crack if you leave the amp at home or in the studio.
