NAD - JP-2C! (Clips added!)

Alright here's what I want to know about the JP-2C. Can you get that same high gain, middy crushing tone / pick attack that you get with the IIC+ and Mk IIIs? I've always felt like the Mark IV & V lost it to a degree, they're just not the same. Here's a clip I did (at the 4 minute mark) that (attempts to) illustrate the tone I'm talking about.

I had a Red and a Purple stripe Mark 3, A/Bd them and returned the Red. It was a good amp, but eventually moved it. Then I got a 2C, and that amp even before the + mod was more organic, articulate and just sounded better all the way around. To me there's a big jump between the 2C+ and the 3.

I think it kinda shits all over the IIC+ mode on the Mark V but that's because I wasn't a fan of that mode. I always used the Mark IV and Extreme modes myself. In terms of a recording, I guess I could upload a crappy iPhone video but that's the best I got - I do have a Torpedo Live but I don't have a recording interface to do something with a better sound

Today I just spent the last couple hours trying to hook up my JP2C with the Reaper DAW through a Scarlett 6i6 and I did a really quick take. I know it is a crap recording but I at least wanted to try something...here ya go:

that was totally acceptable.
next time record 2 rhythm tracks and PAN them HARD LEFT and HARD RIGHT.
it will make your sound much bigger and wider.

Thank you! Should I actually play/record them separately and do the panning? On here I played the rhythm once through and then duplicated that via the software and panned them left/right. I also did that with the lead tracks so I think it kinda messed up giving the rhythm tracks a more dominant sound.

Awesome - it's late over here to keep on recording but it was actually a ton of fun once I started figuring out some of the basics. Next time I record a little bit I'll do it this way vs. duplicating tracks and see how it sounds. I'll try and upload more clips in here with clean and such.

Curious which one works better at low volumes between the JP2C and the mark V?

Both sound good at low vol, the jp2c volume sweep works quit well, i dont really know the exact word to use but i would say it has a wide sweep and it doesnt go from whisper to really loud like alot of amps do, and the tone doesnt sound weak at lower vol.

Heres a decent review taken from the boogie boards. Not mine but you guys might like it. It was kinda long to read so i just took some of it but it might answer some questions for you guys about the tones and how it sounds compared to the originals.

Is it a C+? (Disclaimer: lets just say i have a few C+'s.... like double digits and very familiar with tones and versions).. anyway..It reminds me of when you get a C+ recapped and tuned up and returned from Mesa.

Channel 1 Clean. Top 3 cleans I've heard from a C+. No eq needed.. Matter of fact it sounds better than any of my C+'s except for 1, I call his majesty... (Note: Has not be recapped.....) The EQ actually makes it worse. I feel that in the originals I need the EQ and Without EQ it takes tweaking that never ends. I set channel 1 to the manuals "quick gratification" and turned it up, the channel on the g-major is just a bit of chorus and delay.. It was heavenly......

Channel 2 Sounds like a recapped C+ with current Mesa tubes. If you need more gain than this there is something wrong with you
Channel 3 Sounds like a recapped C++ with current Mesa Tubes. If you need more gain than this you are dead. Note: Everything pulled and shred on gain maxed!

I got really great tones right out of the box using my knowledge of C+'s. Started to experiment with the shred toggle and pull gains and got into the realms of real C+ tones.... One thats has been recapped anyway..

Final review to follow since all my 60/100's run with 415's. So I need a bit more time to drop a set of quads in there. So I may compare apples to apples. Its a great amp but my ears are used to a bit more SAG which kind of comes from age, a bit more squishy of lead channel that is the C+......
In 20 years this amp might climb the shelf. . But right now, as it stand out of the box......., I have better sounding C+'s and some as equals.. "Different Degrees of Awesomeness!"-JP

Remember folks.. A re-issue will never be better than the original , but you'll never get an original with this much functionality.
