Can anyone talk about the differences between a DRG and SRG? Tone, feel, punch, clarity etc etc etc ? Strengths, weaknesses?
I’ve yet to play a 60 watt iic+, but my experience between 100 watt and simul has been that the simul is smoother, more focused, and more compressed and a little less loud. The non-simul to me seems more open, raw and gritty, which I like more overall

Braintheory- if you look at the guts on your Colis- by chance does the no stripe have 8 big caps (4 stacked on top of 4) for the power section where the blues have less?

Racer, its possible he has some transitional parts like ours do.

I freakin' loved the SR I had. SO fast & snotty, SO much clarity & chewyness. It's really the fundamental difference between pentode & triode although Simul is a lot better for rock that straight triode. Out of the 4 IIC+ I've had the SR was arguably my favorite overall although the DRG does have one trick nothing else can do. The Simuls are slinkier, it's really a different feel more so than a different tone. People argue so much about what they've experienced though, with those old amps some are just better than others.

Anyway, FWIW here are clips of mine for comparison. This is all straight in, simple mono mic no post. Actual room sounds.

DRG factory C++

HRG upgrade C+

DR factory C+

SR factory C+

...and me actually trying to get a better recorded tone with it.

I’m not sure, I’d have to check when I’m back in New York

Very unique amp- love this thing. So many tones and textures at your fingertips. Still barely know what I’m doing with it, but having fun. Quick clip

Man, those are probably the best Mark clips I’ve heard. Awesome.

My first was an SRG, and it had overall the best tone/feel of all I’ve had: original HRG, upgrade HRG++, and upgraded Coliseum. The 100s have more tightness than the 60 but the 60 is tight enough. I’d imagine the 60 is right between an HRG and DRG in feel/sag. The Coli however is by far the tightest and easily the best for metal.

My experiences with these Marks is yes, the closer you get to the end of a run, you start to see some components that match up with the next version. Stands to reason the beginning of the next run has leftover components from the previous ie the 105s in the no stripe III.

Each are different like said before. They are all worth their weight in gold and my 60w SG +/++ is no different. It has it's own thing that cannot be over looked. The overall smooth liquid gain and depth is killer.

My DG w/x101 is very raw and has that sag many describe then...

My C+/++ KRG that is the tightest and most 3D of them all. The amp has more low mid thump than any recto or uberschall mentioned in other threads. I can't imagine why a gear forum can overlook a amp like the Coliseum. The amp is like no other in thump or fidelity. The sonic range and depth is not found in any other amp but go ahead and discuss that other shit bc that's what those amps are in comparison AND it makes little children cry :rawk:

Exo speaketh the truth. I just picked up a Triple Rev F. It is an insanely great sounding amp..very rich clear recto tone that is articulate as hell. But, a C+ Coliseum is a destroyer of worlds, not many if any other amp can compare to. It's hard to play any other amp AFTER playing the Coli...as great as the Monomyth 2204 and F Triple are, the Coli is king.
Now I'm thinking about sending it to Mike and getting the ++...

I’ve compared my no stripe ++ coli with my friend’s Uberschall Rev 2, Herbert MKIII and Dual Rectifier Rev F and can confirm it did have clearly more bottom end and thump than all 3 of those amps, although the Herbert was’t too far behind in that aspect. The only amp I’ve yet played that outdid my coli and other boogies in that area is my blueface

Other notable ones are my Wizard MTL and Hiwatt at volume for things like being big, punchy and fidelity

Awesome. Hear this? This is coming from someone who knows and nothing further would be mentioned amp wise if a IIC+/++ Coliseum was at his house.

I need to hear one of these bad boys. You on the east coast? I think an amp fest needs to be arranged

I’m in GA, got a IIC+, ENGL Morse, and the new SLO. I’m ready.
