Do you have a preference of one over the other? Which is more crushing in the low mids, cuts through a mix better, and is just plain more pissed off sounding? I currently have an Engl Savage 120. Love the gain but it's way to thin for what I want to do.
As a fellow dual rec/pittbull owner, I find that I use my rec more often, and generally has a more massive tone than my vht does, though the vht is kind of a singular tone that is unique in it's own right. If you are looking for an amp that blends well with your savage I'd probably go for the rec as recs seem to mix well with most everything. I haven't played a savage, but I have an invader 100 and it mixes with my rec a lot better than it does with my vht.Intimidator333":2h0nqx6a said:Hey benduncan. From my experience of having a rev f and a rev g at the same time, the red channel on the rev F sounds different than the rev g, which is the version that made the amp popular. Some people prefer the voicing of the F because the mids sit on a higher frequency than the ones on later versions. Since the mids are closer to a marshall or an SLO, it provides a better gateway for players that are used to higher voiced mids to use and like this amp. Frequently marshall players play a rev g and hate it because the mids are in a frequency that is too different to what they are used. the rev f sounds more familiar to them. As a point of reference, even the red channel on the peavey 5150 has lower voiced mids than the rev f.
The orange channel is the same one both rev f and rev g. I a/b'd back and forth and could not detect any difference between both amp versions.
These are just my observations from comparing all these amp directly. Hope this helps.
