How'd this do at practice dude?

KILLER. Very punchy and slicing, but it a nice big, tight rear end. I'm used to the Triple Rec, so I know low end. ;)

Loved it. Some of the best heavy tone I've ever had. I used the Flying V and it has that great cutting V tone. As you see in another thread I want to get a 500T back in there.

I used my small board and it doesn't have a power source on there. It has the crappy cables from off the TU-2 to power the rest of the pedals. I had a TON of noise. It was unbelievable. So, I just went online and bought a Voodoo Lab power source and a couple nice cables for the loop. I hope that works.

When I plug directly in with a guitar It has that high gain amp hiss, but it is very low and hardly noticeable.

It was fantastic. My old drummer who I was jamming with, working on new songs, loved it. Thought it was perfect. :rawk:

By the way, I used the Maxon OD808 the entire time. Gain off, volume half way (added no noise) and that made it so tight. Hit the cleans with a Flashback x4 and CE-5. Cleans sounded fantastic. That old school Metallica clean kind of sound. Roland JC-120.

Ran through Mesa Boogie Rectifier 2x12 cab.

Converted! You get sick of it for whatever reason, don't off it. Send it to FJA, man. It'll come back with everything you love and nothing you hate. Remember. Glad it's working for ya, they're great amps for cheap.

You can't go wrong with these man! The best part about them is .. They won't die!

On the subject of feeding back, I found that different cabinets feedback more than others. My Mesa cab feedback and a NS-2 was permanently "ON" while I used the 5150 live. Once I got in the studio and plugged into a Mills Afterburner.. My feedback problems went away. I didn't even need a noise suppressor on the Mills. Freaked me out.

I only bring it up because a large number of 5150 users run a Mesa cab or a Marshall cab (I ran a 5150 and a mesa cab for years). They Feedback with the 5150, but with a larger/thicker cabinet (Mills, Vader, emperor, troubadour,etc..) you don't get the uncontrollable squeal and you can run suppressor free. Not knocking the Mesa cab/5150/suppressor setup.. they sound great, but thought I'd throw my experience out there.

I've wanted one since i heard Islander(with a sonic maximizer and orange cab) used them on their new record.
I bet it would sound monstrous paired up with my Herbert.

What the hell is that crap? sounds like Fred Durst fronting the Deftones, but gayer.

Do you mean noise or feedback. I'm don't understand what you mean regarding feedback with a cab.

The 5150 has a fixed bias

The 5150II (6505+) does not have a fixed bias...It has a bias trim pot on the outside of the amp near the power tubes. It also has bias test points on the rear panel. The sweep on the bias trim pot is small but I find the 5150s in general to sound good with a low to medium bias setting (not super low) but not high either, it starts to get undefined if you get the bias up high where some other amps might sound find this amp shines in the 20ma per tube range.

The ISP decimator II is hard to beat, it works great in front of the amp. The ISP G-string also works great. At the moment my live rig has two Decimator IIs one in the loop and one in front. I would be fine with just one in front to kill feedback but its nice to also kill the hiss after the preamp.

Regarding the bias, that is what I understood. The controls are on the back. Not sure what the other guy meant....

Just to clarify, the 5150 1 does not has bias controls (fixed bias). The 5150 2 model does have adjustable bias via a trim pot in the back.

When Eddie Van Halen started his own line of gear (which is actually made by Fender), Peavey changed the name of the 5150 amps to 6505. The 6505 is the 5150 1, and the 6505+ is the 5150 2. So yes, the 6505+ has an adjustable bias :)

Running an EQ through the loop will really open up both a 6505 and a Recto. I have a Danelectro Fish n' Chips EQ I used to run with my Single Rec, and used with a 5150 in the studio years ago. Both amps come to life with the EQ running! Those MXR EQs are great. The secret to Dimebag's sound, aside from his godlike hands. I believe he used one of the old MXR, bright yellow pedal maybe? Or blue, I don't recall.

NS-2 in front of the amp!!!!!!! Ran this for years and loved it. Also, once the "new" wears off.. and your feeling froggy.. Send that thing to FJA. I've done it and will do it to every 51/65 series amps I've owned.
After reading this, I would give sending an amp to FJA a second thought...

Discalmer: I have nothing to do with this situation, have nothing to do with FJA, and have never used any FJA products. Just sharing this thread.
