Im pretty sure I tried the JJ E34Ls a while back and found them to def have a good deal more bass than the JJ EL34 , they also had a bit more grind or "crunch" in the mids from what I remember

Same here as far as the low end and grind. How would you compare them to KT77's?

I just posted this in the EL34 thread but wanted to list it here also . I tried out a few different power tube brands in the Bogner Eclipse since stratjacket just got the Eclipse also I thought this might be of interest.

So these are my results in the Bogner and to give a quick result I kept the Gold Lions in it for now but would also be happy with the Chinese BSTR tubes , its a toss up for me so far as I like both for different reasons I think the Bogner is one of those amps that has a prominent midrange thats awesome but the JJ EL34s dont seem to go as well because those tubes also have a ton of mids and lean lowend :

The Chinese EL34bstr ( Ruby or Tad ) : These are the biggest and meanest sounding out of the bunch, the most lowend (still tight though) These have a somewhat dark overall sound , relaxed mids compared to the others , not harsh but a nice grind in the low mids. Really like them but I think these would work best with an amp that has a forward midrange and is somewhat lean on the bass so everything would balance out. Works great in the Bogner because it fits that description.

Gold Lion KT77 : Awesome sounding tube somewhat similar to the Ruby EL34 in that they are a bit dark and not very forward in the mids but are smother and have less bass , a bit more compression and a silky high end. These could possibly sound dull in the wrong amp but smooth out and amp that is aggressive.

JJ EL34 and KT77 : I will mention these since I just tried them in comparison. These two sets sound very similar to eachother. They have a lean lowend with a very forward midrange and are brighter than the other brands I tried today. but the KT77 as you would expect have a bit more bass and less mids ,once again they are very close. I would pick the KT77s over the EL34 when it comes to the JJs because the EL34 has very little bass, the least bass out of all the tubes I tried today. The KT77 are a bit more even and full. In the Eclipse I liked the Ruby and Gold lion tubes more but have liked the JJs in several other amps. They would work great in an amp that has a Big lowend.

Hey thanks for that man. Good write up. Earlier today I ordered a bunch of Tung-Sol tubes, 12ax7 and EL34B’s. So I’m going to try a few different combos and 12ax7 cocktails.

Damn it sucks to get an amp with broken glass. Only happened to me once. Ironically it was a jet city from MF. I have always had good luck otherwise though.

It was just dumb luck, the shipper stuffed bubble wrap inside to keep it from happening, but still happened. It didn’t really matter though because I had already ordered all new tubes before it arrived, I just wanted to kind of reset everything.

The JJ E34Ls have more bass than the KT77. It's been a while since I have had the 34Ls so I forget how the mids and highs compare. I just remember that fat bottom !

Great tube info for the Eclipse!

I just picked up an Eclipse last week as well. It certainly is a monster. I'm really digging it. I'm about to pick up some tubes for it. I appreciate the input on your experience. Think I will try out the TAD's.

Yeah it's a killer amp, might be my favorite Bogner so far . I had the XTC and 20th Shiva in the past. This amp is kinda like a mix of those two . It seems like the effects loop on the Eclipse is a better design than the others. That's just by switching it on and off I didnt hear a difference in tone , I gotta throw a delay or something through it to see but I remember the loop on the XTC was a tone sucker.

I'm really loving it. It feels good to play. Turn the gain to about 10:00 o'Clock, hit it with an OD boost and EQ in front, Eventide H9 on the back side adjust sounds amazing.

BTW... What percentage were you biasing these to? I tend to stay around 60%. Looks like Stratjacket is up around 70%.

Nice!
How do you like the Helios compared to the Ubershall?
