Look at this little dude!

I've been using an EVH 5153 50-watter as part of a multi-amp rig for my grind band The Heads Are Zeros for a few months now. Its incredibly loud and incredibly tight. But its a 5150 and there isn't a low of midrange to be had in the Marshally frequencies I like. I could go in and modify the tone stack but I like Splawn heads and the Nitro SS is a nice alternative.

Got this one in today and have spent a bit of time playing with a few guitars and I really like the tones. It has all the midrange thickness I like in a very compact package. Clean channel is excellent too although shared EQ is less friendly to the clean channel on this head than it is on my Science Decolonizer which has a voicing switch for the clean channel. But that's a bigger head with more features for more money.

Footswitchable options give the gain channel 4 different sounds which amount to roughly to two flavors of a very thick tone or two flavors of a thinner version of the same tone. I'll likely be using it without the switch and just on the gain channel live which I believe is OD2 and Mode 2. The thicker and gainier option. But Im not sure.

I will say that the most impressive thing about the EVH is the ridiculous amount of output volume it has. The Splawn doesn't get as deafeningly loud by comparison but it should be plenty to keep up with my drummer through a pair of oversized 2x12s with Eminence drivers.

Congrats on NAD! Another one to plug-in some day.

My buddies band rocks a Science and had a great sound.

Bad ass  Congrats!!! Scott makes killer amps.....

Grats! The only Splawn I've played through was an EL34 100W Nitro about a month ago. Sounded nice....want to try a Quickrod sometime.

Science heads are fantastic. Alex is one of the best builders I have worked with on any piece of gear. His prices are reasonable, his amps sound killer, and he delivers in a few weeks.

So does this sound more like a Nitro or a Quick Rod?

Congrats! The QR I had absolutely killed. I would like a Nitro someday.

This is the Nitro preamp, thus the name "Nitro SS"

3years later, do you still have it and feel the same?

I still have it and use it several nights a week although its presently for sale as I need a 100-watter with two gain channels.

This head has gotten a lot of play on tours and records and really blows anything else this compact out of the water. I get a lot of questions about it. Strongly recommend these if you're looking for a head with two channels, loop, two modes on the gain channel, and a compact format while still pushing 50 watts. Its everything a full-size Nitro is except for the Depth control and separate EQ on the clean channel. Cleans are still nice and bright and clear and the gain channel pushes plenty of mids and bass.

I almost bought one on Reverb yesterday. But, I really wanted a Competition or Ceriatone, which is what I ended up getting.

That was probably mine.
