Look at this little dude!
I've been using an EVH 5153 50-watter as part of a multi-amp rig for my grind band The Heads Are Zeros for a few months now. Its incredibly loud and incredibly tight. But its a 5150 and there isn't a low of midrange to be had in the Marshally frequencies I like. I could go in and modify the tone stack but I like Splawn heads and the Nitro SS is a nice alternative.
Got this one in today and have spent a bit of time playing with a few guitars and I really like the tones. It has all the midrange thickness I like in a very compact package. Clean channel is excellent too although shared EQ is less friendly to the clean channel on this head than it is on my Science Decolonizer which has a voicing switch for the clean channel. But that's a bigger head with more features for more money.
Footswitchable options give the gain channel 4 different sounds which amount to roughly to two flavors of a very thick tone or two flavors of a thinner version of the same tone. I'll likely be using it without the switch and just on the gain channel live which I believe is OD2 and Mode 2. The thicker and gainier option. But Im not sure.
I will say that the most impressive thing about the EVH is the ridiculous amount of output volume it has. The Splawn doesn't get as deafeningly loud by comparison but it should be plenty to keep up with my drummer through a pair of oversized 2x12s with Eminence drivers.
