Did you snag that one off TGP for a real good price? Man, that was a great deal!!! How does she sound? Is that the same as an UltraLead (but an older version?)

I did snag this off TGP. It's an odd model. It says it's a G-100-S. I couldn't find anything online about that. Anyone ever contact VHT about anything? I wonder what they could tell me about this one.

It was way too good of a price to pass it up.

It sounds pretty good. All I have at home to play through is the speaker in my 1x12 combo and even that was rocking pretty hard. The clean channel is nice and sparkly, the rhythm channel is a great mid gain sound and the lead channel just takes off. It's got a huge bottom end and a ton of clarity.

I'll post more when I get to crank this thing through a 4x12 this weekend.

VHT has excellent customer service, they'll probably be able to tell you a lot about it, and respond quickly :thumbsup:
 
Nice! I just traded my 5153 for a CL 100..Which came in today. I love the VHT :rock:

Don't quote me on this, I am no VHT expert, but I believe that would be one of the really early ULs. The early ULs didn't have the graphic EQ, and they actually do sound different than today's ULs, with the EQ off. If I were you I would call/e-mail VHT and see how early of a make that is. Could be a really low number... but unlike most amps, it seems early ULs sell for less than newer EQed ones oddly. :confused:
 
If that didn't say "one hundred" on the front I would think it was an old UL or a Classic (depending on the tubes - obviously). I had a few of each and they were pretty cool. I liked the classic better though.

You know, after jamming on it for a little bit, I think you may be right. I was under the impression that I was getting a CL100. Boy was I a little surprised when I pulled it out and fired it up. I'll get the serial number when I get back home. I'll shoot VHT an e-mail when I get home as well. Perhaps they can shed some light on exactly what I have here. It's definitely an interesting amp. I mostly picked it up because it was a good deal and it is a KT88 based amp.

My mom and dad are from Carroltown and Ebensburg respectively. I was born in Pittsburgh. :thumbsup:
 
Alright, I sent VHT an e-mail. Hopefully they can provide me some info.

The serial number is J920045. Does that make this a '92? I didn't know they even made amps in '92. hahaha...

I did pop the chassis out and the caps have black marker on them and say UL update and then have a date in '93. Crazy.

"You have one of the early versions of what we now call the Pittbull Ultra Lead. It was made in October of 1992 and is the 45th made in that series."

Pretty sweet. I can't wait to get to our practice space tomorrow so I can hear this thing through a 4x12 or two. :rock:

Hot damn. This thing is incredible. It's a whole different beast with a 4x12 or two. I plugged it in to my VHT 4x12 and my Mojo 4x12 at practice this morning. :rock:

I think we may have a winner.
