sounds more scooped with a brighter top end so that could be.lespaul6":13ctltqe said:Greazygeo":13ctltqe said:lespaul6":13ctltqe said:^^I have two M/C's with the A transformer and two with the C.... at first I really didnt hear much difference. After playing through one amp for an extended period of time I plugged into one with the different transformer and I did hear a difference. The A has more mids and less bottom than the C. I still sound like me when I play through either lol
I started off with an old Metal 100 that Rick tweaked and updated for me. After that he built this MC with some of the features of the Metal. He wanted me to swap the OT from what came in it and asked me what I was looking for. It was funny he asked it I wanted VH tone. I laughed and said no. He sent me the A and I put it in. I've had this amp probably 10 years now.
If the C has more bottom than the A that must be nuts! My bass knob never goes past 4 now.
Thats some interesting info... yes, its a slight bit more bottom but I think thats because of the mid range difference? the C is definitely more of the VH thing for sure. I think I'm running the bass on 1 oclock for both the A and C and it sounds great. that clip is TV volume so its not the best..it really balances out the frequencies and sustains when I have the master on 2.5.

It sounds like you're describing a Marshall in need of servicing. Refreshing (or increasing) the filtering will generally solve ghosting issues, as long as the power supply is operating properly. For a tighter bottom, you can try an alternate choke... I prefer that greasy feel plexi amps are known for!Greazygeo":1r0069gi said:TrueTone500":1r0069gi said:What about the classic model with the 4 x inputs? How do those compare to a Marshall plexi?
It's the same tone, but without all the stuff that sucks with Marshall Plexi's. No ghost notes, bottom end holds together, it doesn't take an hour to start sounding good and after three hours doesnt turn to mush.
more like the 25 or so of them I have owned. The 50 watters don't do it very often. Every 100 watt I've owned does it. Other than the issues I mentioned they are great amps.TrueTone500":nqza1bak said:It sounds like you're describing a Marshall in need of servicing. The latter can be related to the aforementioned causes, and/or an issue with the biasing. Also, try powering your vintage plexi amps with 110VAC, and bias accordingly... Early european iron was designed to run on 110VAC/220VAC supply.

I may come into some money and im haveing a hard time deciding between an R9 and a Modern Classic II.
Don't think i could pull off both at this time.
This is a killer thread ...![]()

You ask all the questions about Wizard amps yet I doubt you have any intention of buying one.TrueTone500":1jmddso5 said:It sounds like you're describing a Marshall in need of servicing. You are an AC30 man. Those bitches ghost nice. How do you get rid of it. More often you do not and if you do you have an amp stiffer than John Holmes. Same thing with a Plexi.
Ghosting can be caused by several different things. It's a bitch to figure it out. It can be filtering which is the easiest thing to troubleshoot but more often than not it is not the cause. Grounding, lead dress. Is it ghosting or crosstalk? Crosstalk is allot of fun to troubleshoot. Is it the PI tilting too far in one direction and there are several other causes and several causes for the PI tilting too far as well. Could be the Power Transformer and sometimes the Output transformer. I have seen an old marshall PT causing ghosting because at higher power the transformer had a strange voltage sag. With these older amps you have no way to know if the amp was ever run without a load causing stress to the OT. They don't always open, just break down enough where they are not functioning properly under power. Choke is another one that can cause ghosting.
