Ibanez RG770 in laser blue and a Peavy Express 1x12. Still have and play both.

RG770 as a first guitar?? NICE

My main stage guitar for years was a 1991 RG770DXLB

Cheers,
yes, I was lucky. I have a brother who is 6 years older. He had a crappy Sears knock off Les Paul then a Gibson. He would teach me Zepplin and Black Sabath on his guitars, so when it came time for me to get my own guitar my parents wanted me to have something just as nice (I thank them to this day). The funny thing is I originally wanted a Kramer because my brother had an old Kramer poster that had these cool looking "modern" guitars. They looked so much more exotic and sexy than LP's (probably because of the half naked girl holding one). My local music store didn't carry Kramers, but they had Ibanez guitars which looked similar. I remember they had a desert sun RG550 in stock but I didn't like the pick guard because it made it look too much like a Fender Strat, so I special ordered the 770 and received it that Christmas.

1982 Time SG-8 guitar and a ss Marshall 2 channel, 50 watt "split-reverb."

I still have that guitar.

BC Rich Rave - single pick up strat shape guitar with a pointy head stock
Matching BC Rich Rave amp - Basically a little 10 watt ss amp with a single 6" speaker

Cheap as hell but boy did I get some mileage out of that set up. It was the foundation of my learning experience.

Mine was this one: (NW50, got it in 1984, still have it)

My first electric was a Cimar Strat Copy. Terrible. Went out of tune for nothing :D

First amp was a SS Marshall 5210. A 50 watt JCM 800-era combo. I still have it, and use the combo as a 1x12 speaker cab :)

Good topic, fun to read where everyone started. I broke my leg just before the end of the school year 1981 so I traded my BMX to a kid down the steet for his Kent SG copy and a 10w Sears SS special with one knob that had to be cranked to 10 to get ANY sound out of it. Ahh , Good times. I just recoverd my 2nd guitar from a friend and it is now a restoration project. I would love to find my first.

My first guitar was a 50's Stella acoustic that was barely playable (still have it...still barely playable :D )
First amp was a Kustom "tuck and roll" 15" combo...loud and awful sounding.

My first used electric was a 70's BC Rich shorthorn Mockingbird in the early 80's:

First new electric was an '84 BC Rich Stealth (stolen in '88...still hoping to find it someday):

It was one of those Fender package deals, where you can get a Fender Squire bass, 6 foot instrument cable, a 15w practice amp for around 150 dollars. I was 10 or 11 and thought I was a badass.

Cheers,
Nice! I looked for a RG770DXLB for years. Got mine a little over a year ago. Lazer blue, with a black pickguard. Thinking about switching it out with a clear one, like the stock models had.

I'd have killed to have a RG770 as my first guitar!

Guitar: 1991 Black Gibson Les Paul Studio with Duncan 59's: $475 bucks. Bought it used with my Confirmation money.

Amp: Peavey 2x8" backstage Chorus amp. Had the "super-sat" pull-gain boost. It was pretty dreadful sounding, but at the time, I loved it, and the idea of two speakers was awesome to me.
I used to have the 2x8 backstage chorus too.....ah memories

An old Silvertone aqua colored guitar my parents bought for me at Sears. I believe amp was also a Silvertone.

I had a Premier strat copy that was a dark red with a black pick guard and one of those belt clip marshall amps lol...bought it with power adapter, cable, strap, strings, case, picks...everything that you need...for like 245 from AMS when I was 14...

My first guitar was a Stella Harmony acoustic. It was my Dad's. I still have it and play it.

My first amp was a Fender HOT. Little 25Watt SS amp. Considering what you can get for $235 these days, I don't know how I got by. The amp is long gone.

First Electric guitar was a Fender MIM strat. I still have that guitar, no plans to sell it. It actually plays really well and is very comfortable to play. I have upgraded the pickups, saddles, and pots.

I don't have pictures but my first guitar was a Gibson Melody Maker (still have it). My first amp was a Peavey Butcher with matching 4x12.

They looked just like these:

Cheap Les Paul copy + Traynor combo (4X10 speakers) which I used with a Boss DS-1 pedal.

Mine was a Peavey T60 and Peavey Studio Pro 40. Good solid chunk of oak. terrible pickups though...

Peavey Horizon II, bought it over a Kramer because it was American made and had HSH config as compared to the Kramer's single humbucker.

And a Peavey Backstage Plus, man those must have been popular!

That set up with an MXR D+ was Randy Rhoads!!!
