What a great thread....you guys brought back some great memories! Just reading about brands like Arbor & Hondo remind me of why I love this site so much.

Mine was a cheapy Les Paul copy made by Encore, and a small Marshall practice amp. Man i had so much fun with that gear back when i started playing!!

'70s Fender Musicmaster guitar and silverface Fender Vibro champ. Next amp was a silverface Princeton Reverb.

83' Fender Bullet and a clean Rickenbacker amp that was shite. Wish I never sold the Bullet though just cuz it was my first guitar and all.

Anyone remember what those neck thru Squires were called? I had one in that gun metal grey finish and of course busted the headstock.

I also had some new 1991 Crate 10watt or something amp.

Still have them, they were my dad's, bought new.

1957 Gibson Les Paul Special
1957 Fender Deluxe 5E3

I think that beats my old Squire bullet by a inch or 2........

Wow....did you even realize what you had back then?
;)
20yrs ago, not really. Today, YES.
If I remember correctly he paid $125 or $175 for both new in 1957.

$300 doesn't seem like a lot but if you plug it into an inflation calculator it is over $2k.

Ahh ok, my mistake. Still a bit more than it seems like and a high end beginner rig by today's standards of $200 squier packs. Any which way you were a lucky kid when dad let you touch those much less play them. :D

You could get a pretty nice house for $4000 in the late 50's and minimum wage was a dollar from '56 till '65.

Cheap pawn shop strat copy called S/S 1000. Gorilla amp...I don't even remember what size speaker it was...I remember it sucked. The guitar sucked also...I was finally lucky enough to buy a Fender Squier a few years later.

Mine was a Frontline 301 which was kind of a Charvel copy with pointy headstock except it was complete crap and a 15w little crappy Fender tranny amp.

I remember the epiphone superstrat was awesome .... I really regret having sold it. It was just like the one in the pic, but with the "normal" epiphone headstock. It weighted a ton.

I worked my ass off a whole summer delivering mail to buy these ...

My first guitar was an Arbor white flying V. I worked all summer of 84 to buy it. I still have it till this day. The neck is so bowed. Later that year for Xmas, my stepfather gave me a Marshall Lead 12. I was in heaven. I still play that amp today.

My first was a black Hondo about 1982? and a Crate amp with the wood grain on it.

1974 Les Paul Custom (bought it in '88 for $450.) and a Peavey Bandit 75. I really miss that guitar... :(

I too had the DOD American Metal...going into the Gorilla (see avatar). I had a Guild V copy for my axe.
Actually used a Silvertone Guitar & amp combo for about a year, borrowed it from a family friend until I could get my own rig.
