Also played the Friedman SS that day which was GREAT but not in -2K range obviously. The Small Box is probably a great amp.
My other votes would be
Bogner Goldfinger
Ceriatone King Kong (Borrowed a Chupa for awhile and it surprised me)
Mesa Electra Dyne
Diezel Einstein

Thanks... XTC is great but a 101b can't be found under my budget cap... 20th Shiva's can. Not going the mesa or diezel route for personal preferences. Right now Im definitely leaning towards the 20th Shiva with the landry G3 a close 2nd. Cheers

Cool. Every now and then a 101b comes up for 2K or even 1800-1900 but not often. Wish I could've spent a bit more time with the 20th Shiva and most importantly, played it through a proper cab. What I did take away from it was that the clean channel is fantastic and there are a lot of options with the dirty stuff. The shop (Distinctive Guitars in Milwaukee) had a Helios sitting there and for some reason I didn't fire it up.Good luck on the search!
Theres a Bogner dealer I know who has been gigging the Shiva 2oth over everything else for a long time now and swears by it.suhrimmetal":2xbo0lt5 said:Getting closer to pulling the trigger.... I thinkRight now it stands as this...

You're coming off a Gower mod. 4/ 5 gain stages going to the Landry. I am not sure how many stages that amp has but I think he incorporates diode clipping. I know someone who has a bunch of Cameron Aldrich's and Joses. The Landry he had did not stay very long. It may have been a G3. Not that they aren't great. I have no idea. With thast saidf he plays his Ronnie Montrose Shivas the most I think. Somehow he got a hold of Ronnie's amps after he passed.suhrimmetal":3axbinln said:glip22":3axbinln said:Theres a Bogner dealer I know who has been gigging the Shiva 2oth over everything else for a long time now and swears by it.suhrimmetal":3axbinln said:Getting closer to pulling the trigger.... Don't know if you've heard of Rafael Moreira but he's been one of the top hired guns over the past few years. I was turned on to his tone back when he was the house guitarist for Rock Star Supernova. He's since had many high profile gigs (i.e. American Idol, Paul Stanley etc) where his tone has to span many genres. It always seems perfect for the song. He has always used a Shiva, specifically the older model with the silver back plate, but not sure exactly what year.
