Yeah.. I had 2 5153 50 watts and a 100 watt... good amps for the money. I just feel there is better tone out there for me for my pricepoint. Thanks for input tho.

Mesa Mark V with 34's in it.

From your list I would try the Landry. But except for the Shiva and a "regular" JVM you'll have trouble staying at 2K or less.

You ever look at a Panama Inferno 100? 4 channels, like the JVM. Goes new for $1,500.

Ceriatone King Kong. I love mine...

Haven't 'not' thought about the ceriatione line... king kong would probably be the 1 if I went that route.

I just picked-up the Smallbox and agree that will fill your needs very well. I also have a Quickrod and was going to mention that, until I saw your post about that. Seriously though, I love my QR as much as any amp I've ever owned (including the Bogner Shiva and XTC). Plus, the loop on the Bogners sucked... whereas the Splawn and Friedman loops are great IMO. I'd also second the notion of the PWE from what I've heard/read.

First thing I thought of was Ecstasy. Recently played a 20th Shiva and while I liked it (great depth, feel and lots of tones on tap) there was something I didn't like about the voicing compared to the XTC. Then again, I was playing it through an open-back cab.

Also played the Friedman SS that day which was GREAT but not in -2K range obviously. The Small Box is probably a great amp though. Everything I've played of Dave's has been killer! (Taco, SS, mods)

My other votes would be
Bogner Goldfinger
Ceriatone King Kong (Borrowed a Chupa for awhile and it surprised me)
Mesa Electra Dyne
Diezel Einstein

Thanks... XTC is great but a 101b can't be found under my budget cap... 20th Shiva's can. Not going the mesa or diezel route for personal preferences. Right now Im definitely leaning towards the 20th Shiva with the landry G3 a close 2nd. Cheers

Cool. Every now and then a 101b comes up for 2K or even 1800-1900 but not often. Wish I could've spent a bit more time with the 20th Shiva and most importantly, played it through a proper cab. What I did take away from it was that the clean channel is fantastic and there are a lot of options with the dirty stuff. The shop (Distinctive Guitars in Milwaukee) had a Helios sitting there and for some reason I didn't fire it up. Good luck on the search!

You're coming off a Gower mod. 4/ 5 gain stages going to the Landry. I am not sure how many stages that amp has but I think he incorporates diode clipping. I know someone who has a bunch of Cameron Aldrich's and Joses. The Landry he had did not stay very long. It may have been a G3. Not that they aren't great. I have no idea. With thast saidf he plays his Ronnie Montrose Shivas the most I think. Somehow he got a hold of Ronnie's amps after he passed.

Yeah... my Killer Kali was a while ago and many amps in between then and now.... The Shiva is definitely a contender in my searches... Hell, have your 'someone' sell me 1 of his Cameron Joses for my pricepoint and done deal   I KNOW i dig the modded marshall tone and feel... just need a bit of versatility and good loop with it as well.

I've come to a similar crossroad. I've narrowed it down (for now) to the Smallbox or the Shiva. Don't know if you've heard of Rafael Moreira but he's been one of the top hired guns over the past few years. I was turned on to his tone back when he was the house guitarist for Rock Star Supernova. He's since had many high profile gigs (i.e. American Idol, Paul Stanley etc) where his tone has to span many genres. It always seems perfect for the song. He has always used a Shiva, specifically the older model with the silver back plate, but not sure exactly what year.

Nice to know... I have not heard of him but sounds very similar to Justin Derrico...who is a huge influence to me..and cool dude. He plays for Pink... but also plays for the show The Voice. He's a Musicians Institute Alum and can flat out rip it up ..amazing player and so well versed. He also plays the original model Shiva... he's recently added the BE100(which I believe he blends for rhythms...if at all)... but the Shiva has been his staple amp for many, many years.
