Very nice Greg

Will Splawn load a cab with celestions or did you buy it unloaded?

Sounds pissed off! I think that is why the Cobra cab has greenbacks. It tightens up that amp, and sounds pissed off!

Jebus....that sounds GREAT!
A combination of a high quality mike and very nice pre-amps aren't hurting the final product either.

Love it!

well done!

:)

Cheers guys.

I bought the cab loaded with Big Blocks; they sounded pretty damn good in that cabinet, but they have that terrible Eminence midrange I loathe :bash:

I feel like this may end up being my favorite cab. Splawn Cabs sound great with looser speakers, since they are pretty stiff on their own.

I've been saying the same thing for almost a year now,i bought the same cab and love it for metal, cuts better and
the low end is cleaner. And i haven't used my Mesa cab since i got the Marshall

Damn! I have to admit that that is one of the BEST heavy clips I've heard of an amp. I really like 5150 IIIs from playing with them a little bit at the store(pretty loud), but I have never heard one sound that heavy, crunchy and clean with a nice mid grind. Usually very processed and a little over saturated for my tastes. I also like just hearing the guitar too most of the time. What channel were you on? How many tracks?

Cheers guys! Tons of positive feedback here :) That is quite a compliment, bubba.

Ola sent me two DI tracks; two tracks of two element each (the mic has a dynamic AND condenser element).

Here are settings
5150%20III%20Settings.JPG

Boost was gain at 8:30, tone at 10:30, and level at 1:00.

The amp was on the third channel.

Mic positioning I don't look at anymore; neither do I settings. I listen for what I want and make it happen. IIRC, the mic was over the dustcap pointed toward the radius of the cone.

Thanks Scotty. Presence sounds better higher almost all the time, especially recorded. That's where the sparkle comes from, and blending two microphone elements helps a lot!

Yeah I am bringing the treble down more and more and using presence, does not thin the amp out

On the Cali, the knobs end up at noon almost all the time with the Greenbacks. It's pretty damn awesome. I never like any amps will all the knobs at noon aside from the Fortin :)

Natas is coming in a couple of weeks... Oh Yes!

I'm a Presence Whore too. I generally roll the mids back and get a handful of presence and take the treble back until the bite is gone. This goes for about every amp I own. The first one is an Aldrich mod and the second is the Fortin mod....neither work like this with GB's though.

Damn, that does sound good. I like my English greenbacks a lot. They have that grind that makes me happy. Lots of presence too, but I love mids too..

Hmm,...Its kinda the opposite... Greenbacks are wet sounding and a little squishy in a good way.. The Cobra is already tight, dry and mean sounding , especially on the crunch channel. Thats why the greenbacks sound good with it... They ad sag and juice.
