So I remember reading about when there's that plastic piece between the metal neck plate and the wood that it affects tone - can anyone describe what changes if you take it off? TIA!

just try it and tell us

haha, I'm too lazy   Seriously, I thought there was some lengthy discussion about this - maybe it was something else...

I think you may be thinking of something else. There was a thread a while back about loosening the bolts a quarter turn until the neck makes a soft crack sound, then retightening them. Maybe you are thinking of this? Putting absorbent material between the body and neck joint will surely affect the action and sound of the guitar, but the joint between the body and screwplate is largely unrelated to sound or function of the instrument. I just don't see it affecting anything in a positive or negative way.

No there was a thread about this (here somewhere), and of course there are some who swear they can tell a difference. :scared:

Loosening the neck bolts to seat the neck actually works, and I do that as a normal thing. However, I have tried the same guitar with and without the plastic base. I could not tell a difference.

Ever since that thread I've been doing it every string change!

I find black shoes laces have a much bigger affect on my tone. If you cut those plastic things off the end of the shoe lace it really opens the amp up. The notes jump off the fret board and you get a more organic sonic ratio to the wood grain factor.

Surely there is a particular brand of shoe string - but I bet that's a secret

What scale length of shoestring do you use?

Yes, and what guage?

Do you prefer any particular fabric over the other? I've heard salt and pepper gives you that signature vintage breakup and chirp.

Yeah but your Shoe laces are modded. Thats the secret your not telling us all.

Sorry guys this is my own proprietary design I came up with. I can tell you one secret is to wash the shoe laces in Gain Spring Fresh scent and use 1 Bounce dryer sheet. Use cold water.

you guys do realize all this nonsense would probably get us banned on some forums...

Damn...I was thinking about using the Dryer sheet 1st...actually tossing it in with the wash.
