It definitely wasn't designed for the thrash player in mind, but neither was a Marshall Plexi... look what you can do with those.

Here's thrash. No effects aside from a HP/LP; I just threw up a mic and played my guitar

Fuck yeah Greg!  :D

That's what I was trying to say. This amp is not a slow amp by any means. Well, let me restate that. It can be, but it can also be tight as hell too. Love the XTC. Versatile machine.

I've owned 3 to date, and hands down the 101b is my fav. channel switcher..I've owned a CAE OD100SE+, VHT Sig X, Einstein, most Mesa's, etc. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I must say that the 101B has become my favorite amp for the music I am playing right nowt.

I also own a Diezel Einstein and must say that amp is reaaaaally reaaaaally good too. It actually depends on which music you like. Both are plenty versatile.

For anyone comparing those two amps I'd If you play rock/hard rock get the Bogner. If you play Hard rock to Metal get the Diezel.

We did an in-depth review on that exact model! Here you go:

Sounds fantastic in the hands of the right player.

Nicely done. There've been more albums and releases recorded in the collective "our genre" of music using 101B's, Classics and Fish than many of us dare to realize. It's an INCREDIBLE amp. Period.

Just so happen the EL34 loaded 20thA is a little more incredibler...

Sounds awfully thin and razorblade like. You are dialing back all the low end to get it tight. What you have left is not too pleasant sounding.

Rriiiight...so you're saying it sounds like THRASH tone.  That's what classic thrash sounds like. Throw it in a band mix and you have yourself a nice, tight thrash tone that cuts through.

I think that'd work great in a mix, nice job and you should do one with a drum/bass track too!

I forgot that you had hidden cameras in my room documenting my amp settings when I do clips. Damn... foiled again

In case anyone was interested:

The excursion is on T, Presence B, Presence is around 5:00; Ruby EL34 BHT's don't complain or get as brittle as JJ's when you get the presence that high.

Are you going to argue next that I just changed the amp settings when I took that picture just to make you look like an idiot?

I suppose you're still just sour from that post I made where I hinted that the reason why you don't like V30s is because you don't know how to dial in an amp ;)

On any note, just about everyone liked the tone for "classic thrash" aside from you, and that's just fine. ;)

I trust Greg. Hes got ears and knows how to dial an amp so that it sounds right. I actually like what Im hearing from the XTC in this thread. Sounds like a neat amp

It really matters where the bass knob is? You are using V30's right? Excursion on T thats a given. A bass setting that high is what I normally end up using V30's.

I like the Ruby EL34's...more like a 6Ca7 tube. They work great in the Lee Jackson Ampegs. Normally a nice big lowend, though you killed it here.

Sorry its my opinion it sounds unpleasant to me. Not really my place to care what someone else may like or not like. My experience with the 101 is what it is....some guys love them and that's great. Like I've said before the Blue channel was almost there for me, didnt like the feel.

Now if I can just figure out these velcro shoes.....

You explicitly commented that I dialed back all the low end to get it tight. That could not be any farther from the truth, hence why I replied otherwise, and posted a picture of my settings. That's the only thing I was trying to get at.

You are also more than welcome to your opinion, and it's wonderful you stand by it. Like I said, not the best thrash tone in the world, but hey, it did thrash just fine, and without a boost for that matter; that was my point.

I'll be posting some thick metal clips later this week that will likely be more up your alley.

Might mention with the Bogner's Excurtion on T (tight) you can wind the bass right up and it's not "bassy". I also found set on T it can get brittle fast with high treble and/or presence settings

very nice, playing and tone. deserving of two sets of horns!

thanks for the settings pic too--i'll have to try those out on my 101B....

Agreed. I prefer it on M with a boost for most harder tones in general. The amp has such a wonderful harmonic structure and presence in the mix. It seems like everything in my collection now is a life-long resident. It all started with the Baron K2 :D
