Neil Young

In the movie of the Band's The Last Waltz, they had to edit out Neil's giant cocaine booger 1 frame at a time.

I don't give him a pass. If this were a thread about what a fucking virtue signaling prick he is I'd be all over it. But it isn't. It's about his music. I will kind of give him a pass for not writing anything worth a shit since the early 80s because that's to be expected. All those old dudes run out of steam at some point.
I actually think Harvest Moon and Sleeps with Angels are good albums.

It’s a shame that at any jam or award show where he would be there the “younger” band or whoever would usually do Rockin’ in the Free World. It’s actually a good song but god damn do I never want to hear it again. It’s like Born in the USA or Bad to the Bone.

It's sad that we have to be the ones to separate the art from the artists. I don't get how people will throw away good art because the artist is a bad person or has obtuse political views. Why is it we have to like the artist as a person to appreciate their art? Why does disagreeing with someone politically make their art unappreciated? I'll even go straight to hyperbole and say if the artist killed and ate children, does that make their art suddenly bad? Sure, maybe don't go see them live or support them financially, fine. I wouldn't burn the art I already had though.

As good as he is at what he does, I refuse to support his idiocy.

Let me pull my music on Spotify because joe Rogan (who is libertarian).

*** loses a shit ton of royalties ***

***goes crawling back due to money, or nobody else joining him in his one man crusade.

Which is it neil? Money or principal? You can't have both.

If you think Neil Young needs the pittance that Spotify pays artists, I think you need to do a bit more research.

Just FYI,
Spotify pays artists roughly $0.003 to $0.005 per stream on average. This means a song needs about 250,000 to 333,000 streams to earn $1,000, and reaching 1 million streams yields roughly $3,000 to $5,000.

Neil Young has a net worth of roughly $200 million. He hasn't done anything for the sake of money for many decades.

Not true. Averaging out all of the artists on Spotify to get a base rate pre play isn't telling the whole story. It's not a set rate per play, but rather a market share over a time period. For artists like myself who are lucky to get a few hundred plays a month (in our heyday), we get a fraction of a cent per play. It's nothing. However, for artist who can get tens to hundreds of thousands of plays a month, it adds up to a much larger amount. Sure, you can average it out, but that average is for average musicians who get a few thousand plays a month, not Neil Young.

It's like saying the average vehicle sale nets a profit of $1600 to $2000. Most of us aren't making that kind of money when we sell our vehicles. We have so much invested that we end up losing money by owning them. Once you factor in dealerships though, it offsets all us poor fuckers who sell our vehicles to the junk yard for $500 when the crankshaft goes. In this analog, Neil Young is a dealership. He's not getting the average.

Shit playing and shit politics go together.

I have pets that play guitar better than Neil.

Not such a pittance....

Exactly. $2m/year is nothing when your net worth is $200 million.
You dont think like a rich person.

Thats his living money. He doesnt have to touch the rest, or work again.
2 million for sitting home and shutting his fucking mouth is a nice gig, anyway you slice it.

I don't think almost $5500 a day, every day, for the rest of your life is a pittance. Thats a pension.
