neodymium magnets in pickups

Any one have a pickup with neodymium magnets, how do they sound

Pros : extremely articulate, quick response. No mud.

Cons : fairly harsh, not sweet at all. All that focus gives a fairly flat, sterile sound.

I have a high end set of headphones, a tom Anderson hn3 plus pup and extensively played the Celestion century 80 speaker. All feature neo magnets and the cold, icy sounding high end character is unmistakable and inherent to all. That's the neo sound.

To me the biggest upside to neo magnets is the power to weight ratio. I don't really like the tones for anything but cleans, but speakers with neos are so much lighter, it's a big plus.

Celestion gave me one to test - I forget the model, but it has the 444 cone, same as the V30. I put it in a 2x12 cab with a V30 and did some quick testing at the last gig. I thought it sounded good, not identical to the V30, certainly, but very good. In the end I put the mic on the V30.

I have a DV Mark 4x12 and the DV speakers use neo magnets. The cab has the low end of my old Mesa 4x12 but weighs 43lbs.

I absolutley love it.

the celestion century vintage is a great speaker
not as organic as the v30, but cleaner and less nasal, and weights 1/3 of a v30
sounds awful with some amps and great with others (like any good speaker, actually)
