Never thought I'd say it, but I may have forsaken Floyds

While I rarely use Floyds, and my technique on them is meh, I always like a Floyd on a guitar. Maybe I'm just a glutton for punishment? Anywho, I got this new Warrior restrung with a string through/Tune-O-Matic setup with my 9s to Eb, didn't need to tweak the truss rod like I thought I might need to, and just needed to bump the treble side of the bridge up to tweak the action for buzzing/partially crap notes. This thing plays so slinky and loose now, bending is such a breeze and vibrato is easier. I play Floyd guitars all day and it's not hard to do on there, but it's almost like playing 8s on this. My other Warrior is the same scale, same strings (but tuned to E), but it's not quiiiiite as easy to play.

I may just end up buying non-Floyd guitars for a while, this is just so much easier.
 
Blocking Floyds improves tone; making it more filled out in the lowend.
But it seems the solid Tail Pieces sound way better I would agree..
 
Yeah, I always say the nut locks make the tension tighter, and people think I am crazy, lol. I love Floyd's, but they do make guitars play stiffer.
 
Well when you do bends there is give at the bridge, which makes you have to bend even harder to get to pitch, but if you are someone who likes fairly light tension then imo it's not much of a problem. If you are one who likes heavier tension then I would never recommend a floating bridge setup.

I'm a 9-44 guy at E, 9.5-46 at Eb, 10-48 at D-std, and 10.5-52 at C#.

Yeah, you get the resistance from the springs, but clamping down the locking nut also shortens the strings which makes them stiffer to bend.

I have loved Floyds for years, but I have been going more towards hardtails and non-locking Wilkinson type trems lately because of this.
 
Love hate with FR here. The benefits far outweigh the negatives for me though. I have 3 main types of guitars I use: fixed bridge, two point trem and floating trem guitars. I only mess with FR when I need them.

The floating trem on my EBMM Majesty is much preferred. I plan to get another Majesty later this year when the new colors are released.

FWIW, once I got the FR adjusted for the strings I use, changing strings is easier; I just block the trem when changing the strings until I get them close to being in tune, then tweak from there. honestly it may only take 3x the time vs no FR string changes, not bad IMO
 
Got my first fixed bridge guitar a year ago and love it. I actually always like the tone better on my hero players that use fixed bridges. Pretty much always when I think about my favourite albums and players. With very few exceptions (Eddie, Lynch, Uli).

I do sometimes find my self going to grab the bar sometimes though. It’s got me working on my left hand vibrato more.

Which one though? I thought the latter did not ring out as much as string thru or maybe even Floyd.

I find my Floyd stays in tune the best and is the most comfortable but damn it’s a PITA to get set up.
 
For me a strat or an LP would be the pita.
Floyds are super easy to setup, as I've been doing them since 1991, and nothing but floyds since 91.
I never ever need to block a floyd for a setup change, let alone a simple string change. Super easy!

I don’t doubt youre good at it and have some tricks, but seriously, try a tunomatic with locking tuners and get back to us.
 
I'm with Dave, setting up a Floyd is no problem for me as I've been doing it forever. Is it easier to change strings on this guitar with a TOM and string thru body and locking tuners? Hell yes lol
 
…Can swap pickups without changing strings on an FR ?

Of course it's a hair faster, but imo it's well worth the few extra minutes just for the comfort and function of the floyd/edge, but that's obviously a matter of personal preference.
 
All of my guitars have floyds. I'm super happy with how they play and stay in tune. No issues for me as I have been using them since they were introduced in the early 80s.
