Since I've been trying to figure out what to do while Fender takes their sweet ass time in shipping me a new PT for my EVH 5153, I decided I needed a second amp. The recent Rivera thread reminded me that I have owned and loved several Rivera amps over the years. So I went over to evil bay and took a look around. Found a very clean M-100 at a reasonable price and decided to pull the trigger. I'm very excited to get this bad boy here. Should make it in time for my band's show on 7/31.

Nice. My roommate had one of those for a while we enjoyed it.

Enjoy

I've always wanted to try one of them since it's the Skid Row Slave to the Grind amp and I love that album and tone.

Congrats! Rivera's are such a value used, on par with VHT stuff for build quality/bang for the buck and tone. Great cleans and try different boosts in front to shape the gain if you don't like it right away. I owned one of Jason Bieler's(Saigon Kick) Rivera TBR 1SL rack monsters for a bit, it was great...just put an SD1 in front and nice Marshally tone. Chubtone here said in a thread a few years ago that Skid Row toured with SK late 90s and loved Jason's tone, so they grabbed some M series amps like you have and used them for Slave to the Grind. I believe the only difference with your amp to the TBR SL is a slope or notch dial, one or the other. Nice! Enjoy!

This will be my third M100 and I've owned a K55 as well. They are great amps. The lead channel is the same as the TBR SL. The clean channel is different from the TBR's though. My understanding is that the clean channel on the M100 is the "m" channel from the TBR M series. I'm pretty excited to get it in. I remember them being a beast in a live situation. They track very well.

On a side note, I had spoken to Bieler in the late 90s about buying one of his TBRs. All was going great until his manager got involved and the price shot up another $500. Lol.

Weren't you considering dropping oodles of cashola on Bogners / or Friedmans etc a while ago? Low and behold you come right back to the tried, tested, and true boosted budget amp. You can't beat a tone the boys from SKid Row were getting in the studio not to mention their tone live. Always crushing. You made the right decision here. Just like a JCM800 with an SD-1. Nothing really beats it when you get down to bidness'.

Sounds pretty damn good here:

Raw and crunchy not too saturated.

I think I might have messaged you about that before? Can't remember..my drummer has a TBR M and I used it once but couldn't get enough gain out of it. Researched the TBR and figured out the SL is the one to have. I saw an unsold eBay listing and the seller was Bieler Bros so I contracted him on FB. Got back to me fast, was very cool and I gave him 950 for it. Its signed inside by Paul Rivera to Jason. My drummer bought it from me so I still have access to it lol..

Nah. Not me. Would love to own some of those amps, but my wallet says no. Lol

My bad! I confuse avatars and profile pics sometimes, sorry! Either way you have a smokin amp on the way!

No worries. :) I'm stoked to get this thing in and crank it up.

Awesome lol great demo now I want one of those lol how does that differ from the knucklehead?

1990s Rivera Knuckelhead 100:

1990s Rivera M100: (actually a TBR-1SL but same lead channel)

The amps are voiced differently. While the Knucklehead will cover heavier styles, the M100 starts off voiced better for the task.

the R100 sounds a tad markV saldono esc more gainy then the knucklehead?

I would say I can her a bit of Mark III DNA in that tone. I believe Sykes used a Rivera for a bit in the early 90s.
