-I agree!! I've come close to buying the big brother to this, very thick juicey tones to be had in that little amp, from what I've read they don't take pedal's well-(OK with me, all I use is a little analog delay)- how does yours work with pedals? the price is nice too.
Who told you that? No way, it works incredibly well with pedals. I used a Strymon Timeline and Mobius for the delay and chorus, and a JHS Angry Charlie V3. I wish I knew enough about recording to really show how great it sounds. It's just a really badass amp. You can flick on the thick switch and it gets creamy distortion and stays pretty tight for metal. It has great headroom for a 2 watt amp. I used humbuckers and had the gain at 12:00, so you can hear the clean parts didn't break up too much. I like it so much that I bought a second one. This little amp is a keeper.
Prior to purchase, I read a lot of reviews. Oh, by the way, I also bought the 1x10 cab too... Reviews were very good, but some said it was too bright or boxy. Well, first of all, most of those little amps don't have the bass or midrange cut that this one does. This actually uses a 12AU7 as a power tube and two 12AX7's for preamp tubes, so its not emulating the power amp distortion from what I'm told. As far as it bein bright, well the brightness can definitely be dialed back, but if someone's complaining that it's "too" bright then they're probably playing it at very low volume. Like any tube amp, it needs a bit of volume to fill out all mids and low end. Fortunately, it can achieve great tone at conversation volume.
The little cab is pretty cool. It's not deep at all which I think is a bit disappointing because if it was just a little bit deeper, it would really project well. However, it's not a bad cab or speaker at all. In fact, I think it sounds damned good for its size. That "boxy" sound people complain about is actually the coolest part of low wattage amps because it's kind of that vintage, low watt tone. However, I guarantee you if you plug it into a 1x12, 2x12, or a 4x12, it's not going to sound boxy. This little amp is a monster. It also has great headroom for a
I really recommend getting one while people still have them up for sale because I think there's nothing else like them. Vox recently released some weird looking little amps, but I don't think they sound as good, and they're not as flexible because they've kind of separated them by function. There are three models: clean, crunch, and distortion. You can get all that with this little amp, and it's a tiny little amp with a real power section. You can direct record with with or use headphones. I want to re-record this again with my miced cab, and then try the direct recording too. Get one man, you'll be happy.
