So I finally scored an EVH cab for a good price! I'm very excited to have my gear match again. It seems like such a silly thing, but it is nice to turn around and have it all with the same logo. Lol. For those of you that have owned or do own the EVH cab, how long did it take to break the speakers in? It's a bit stiff at the moment and I won't be able to really crank it up until next week. I figure a few good loud (read: normal) practices and it should start to loosen up a bit. Anyway... Here it is.

I will say that after owning a Mesa Over sized cab for so long, the EVH looks kinda small. Haha!

Congrats on the new cab. It feels good with everything matched lol.

Turn it face down on the carpet and cover it with a few blankets. If you have a looper, record a loop with some chunking low end. Crank it up and let it run that way for a while. It'll definately get you a head start on breaking in the speakers.

Thx for the tip on that! When my new cab comes in...that is something I'll do for sure!

Put it face down on your bed and play some real clean bass tones to really loosen it up... I was just watching a video today where someone mentioned it, maybe Fluff's recent FAQ Monday?

I have done the carpet / blanket treatment trick for the past couple of years now, while using some looped sections of various cd's. Last time, I tried a cd that my buddy had from Ear Candy, and it seemed to really do the trick with various different frequencies. I only had the one 4x12 to try it on, but it sounds ALOT better after the cd ran a few times. So much so, that I order my own copy of the cd for future usage. No affiliation, just adding a different option to the conversation.

Cool, I'll check this out

The low end thumps really nicely. Just need to break it in so the top end isn't so harsh.

Yes, I was using a Mesa Recto cab before.

hmm interesting which cab do you like better?

Its hard to really say right now. I went from a very well broken in cab to a brand new one. I have played this amp with a cab loaded with Greenbacks before, and thought it sounded great. The mids have a bit more creaminess to them. More of a classic Marshall bark. I will say that the 5153 sounds very good with V30s. If you listen to any of the clips that I have put up, that's all been V30s up until this point. Once I get the EVH cab broken in, I'll make some new clips with it.

That blanket on the floor nonsense seems risky to me? Cones not moving freely, can't be a good thing.

Play the shit out of it, and be happy.

If the speakers are English, shouldn't take more than a few hours.

Chinese seem to take 20 hours or more.

For a different flavor pick up a VM cab with the G12C greenbacks. Darker but very rich...never should have sold mine.
