i wish that they were still usa made, but i do like the chrome hardware and the direct mount pickups look better then the black hardware and cosmetics on the usa production. I really dig the brass hardware on some of the usa custom shop stuff. The blue one above looks very nice!!

It's taken me about 6 months to come along to this conclusion, but I have to say that as a rule these made in Japan guitars are at least as good as the USA Production ones if not better. It pains me to say that as an American, but we aren't comparing equal things. The USA ones were made on a production line here with workers that generally aren't guitar players and are for the most part just factory workers. In Japan, we know the education level is higher on average than what most of the factory workers at Fender probably received. Also, in the Japanese Charvel/Jackson/EVH factory these guitars are all they build. Each employee who TOUCHES the guitar in that factory must go to guitar lutherie school.

I have to say I was very against these being moved to Japan but I have been won over by quality product. It took a while because of my belief that Charvel's should be made in USA. But, I have to say that I am going to grab one of these, retro mod it and probably sell one of my USA Productions.

Is the blue a newly offered color? It speaks to me.....

Blue ones were just released Friday. We got them Monday morning and beat everyone to the punch thanks to being 20 miles from the factory.

Hey Curt how do the Custom ones look? ;)
I was there yesterday to pick up the orange one and I had to fight myself not to walk out with the two hum Seafoam green Custom Shop Curt has there... :inlove:

Steve

I might just take a trip over there today.

Come on by. We have one custom shop so far. It's pretty cool.

That is a really cool blue. Steph from Deftones had an ESP horizon in that same exact color and I've wanted one ever since.

The orange one no longer looks like that... :D

I put in a cream Dimarzio Super D hum, a cream Dimarzio HS-3 single, a Hipshot chrome covered solid brass hardtail, EVH zero friction pot, san dimas brass volume knob and san dimas brass strap buttons.

0000 steel wooled, the neck, frets and fretboard, Lemon oiled everything then hit is with the steel wool again once it was dry...

Required some "customization" of the HS-3 to fit the route (had to cut off some plastic) - same with the Hipshot (needed to drill new mounting holes, but all is cool now. Still waiting for some locking tuners to complete it... Looks, plays and sounds way cool...

Steve

Here is a crappy cell phone pic. Better ones later...

Sounds nice. Any pics?

Steve

That looks very un-japanese, I like it!
You like it... You really like it!!!

How do you like the EVH pot? I've been meaning to order one...

IMHO my USA production is the best guitar purchase I've made in a long time. I haven't played one of the MIJ Charvels, if they are anything like my USA production, I might be looking for another.

I've put them in almost all of my guitars. They are absolutely frictionless. I will say that I've had to throw a couple away that were poorly made, but I've installed like 7 of them now and they work great if you like a completely frictionless pot (which I do!)...

Steve you were right that Custom Shop Sea Foam was......amazing! Didn't get to plug it in but the feel and neck were incredible. It's beyond me how anyone could not love these guitars. I'll be placing an order for one this summer hopefully.

I think your wife may be the smartest wife of a gear freak ever. Let hubby hit the guitar shop but take the 13 month old with him so he really can't try out any gear.

And everyone thinks there own kid is the cutest thing ever, which I'm sure you and your wife do. I think in your case though, you guys may be right. That kid is unbelievably cute

I got a pic today of my personal custom shop guitar in final assembly. I'm getting excited  There are a couple of more coming down the pipe really soon too.

Thanks Curt I really appreciate your kind words.

Yeah I guess my wife tricked me taking the boo with me. She is smarter than I, which I learned early in my marriage and help keeps me out of jams. I was just telling her about that Custom Shop 20 minutes ago. I think I sold her on it.  Just an awesome guitar!!!
