New "country" haters?

I like to think that I can find the good in near any music but pop "country" to me is just useless drivel being made for masses of complete idiots. Where did country specifically go wrong? When did Willie, Hank, Waylon, George, Charlie, Johnny and others turn into useless shit like Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia line, Big and Rich and all the other crap that apparently makes pop "country" the highest selling genre in North America.

Hank III, Shooter Jennings, Corb Lund and others still keep the torch burning a little but man, what people call country nowadays is just plain sad. I didn't start this to rant but more to try and see if anyone could pin point where it all went wrong.

Some seriously talented studio guns playing this stuff too, just not doing anything good, but money is money when you are a hired gun.
 
I actually don't know much about modern mainstream country music. What I do know is that brad paisley is a better guitar player than I am. I'm not sure how much that adds to this conversation :lol: :LOL:
 
Keith Urban is a good player too but his music is a pile of turds.
 
I don't mind country music, but I prefer the older stuff.
Today's country just seems too contrived.

I have to listen to pop country all day at work (electrician/construction). It's the absolute worst garbage that has ever been written, and puts me in a horrible mood. I don't understand the appeal at all. Each goddam song mentions trucks and 'cold beer'. Ugh. I can usually listen to any music and find something enjoyable, or at least understand how it's relatable/appealing, but not with this Brad Paisley, Luke Bryan, Eric Church, etc filth.
 
I dont really listen to country. If I do its older stuff.

Who's buying this? I think it's the same generation that liked (and eventually killed) pop rock/metal in the 80's. I think history is going to repeat itself.

As for new crap, I am just faced with it seemingly everywhere, I genuinely don't get it. I mean, see, I really dislike the Beatles, Elton John, The Rolling Stones, jazz music, Matchbox 20 and a ton of other music but I can respect those musicians, their music and I can understand what people like about it but with new "country" I really just have no clue how anyone can subject their ears to it. It's music made for complete idiots by idiots. It's got zero feel, zero meaning, no soul, no flavor, no passion in the delivery. It's just sterile. But judging by the target market that seems to be made up of "woooo" girls and Bros ( you know the people that yell wooooo as often as possible), I get the high sales.

I once asked a group of people I was camping near at a softball tournament if they wanted to hear some of the country I had in the car, being that I had to listen to theirs all weekend and they didn't like it. I asked why not? And a few of them actually said "I don't like how twangy it is"... IT'S COUNTRY, COUNTRY HAS TWANG FFS!!!!

I understand that music evolves and such but I just don't know exactly when and where country music began to devolve, at this rate what will "country" music be in 20 years? What band or artist do you guys think started this devolution? For me,, and I know this may get some glares but I think it could have something to do with the Eagles but not sure. One day it just seemed like country was over.
 
The where/when it started is usually considered the late 80s with Garth Brooks. This whole era of country is often referred to as the "Garthinian" era. Its even worse these past few years though. All manufactures pop idols like the teen sensation of the 80s and 90s, except now grown men have been suckered into te fandom too.

Without ever hearing this term, I was going to say that it started with Garth Brooks.

I think country guitar players have insane chops. I think the new country is over produced formulaic garbage but so is mainstream pop. All said, there are some stupid catchy new country songs which have blazing solos. Old country may be more authentic but i think it is boring and too twangy. So the new guys are singing about chicks, beer, pickups, and jeans. All good, I just turn the dial if the solo sucks.
 
Yah man, like I said, the hired guns can rip. Those dudes can play but I kinda feel like that's a five star chef making a PB&J
 
The thing I HATE the most about this new "country" is how a perfect english speaking person adds that stupid fake hick accent when they sing just to sound southern, when it sounds like no "real" accent I've ever heard before. Same can be said about the "gansta" accent, as well as drill sergeants. :lol: :LOL:

I think I'd take pop Country over crap, I mean rap or hip hop any day.
