Those clean vocals might as well be AI for the amount of Melodyne they have on them, JESUS

With the way AI can churn out blockbuster cinematic movies, we are likely not going to even know what is or isn't AI metal pretty soon.

I mean definitely for genres like modern tech death, sure

But no, AI isn't very good at writing melodies or convincing vocals in more organic sounding genres yet

When I wrote a research paper last summer about AI use in the music industry, I tested some of the AI tools. I used the following prompt in Udio, "death metal song about unicorns. fast double bass. palm mutes."
Below are the two outputs.

Title: Unholy Stampede
Lyrics:
[Chorus]
Ride, ride, through the darkened forest
Horns aglow, with power we conquer
Ride, ride, mythical and ferocious
We are unicorns
[Bridge]
Through mist and flame, never retreat
Crimson hooves pounding; hear the beat of thunder's roar

Title 2: Unleashing the Unicorns
Lyrics:
Unicorns are fierce
Galloping through the tears
Blood on their twisted horns
Raining down on realms
[Chorus]
Hooves of fury, they'll slay
In the night, they prey

I think they did a pretty good job lol.

Does it sound like death metal music? Yeah, but it's generic death metal music.

It has the same production that all modern death metal has, which is one of the problems AI is going to have to overcome to get more realistic and convincing.

You're not wrong. I was still impressed with what it spat out. I kind of expected some half-assed bullshit that wasn't even close to death metal. But I guess udio's input data is good enough to be able to output good enough generic stuff.

It is, and it's quite good at that, 100%

But honestly if you played me a bunch of death metal from satellite radio, I couldn't discern AI from the actual bands anyways

So I guess what i'm saying is that i'll be a lot more impressed when AI gets to the point that it can reproduce multi-layered aesthetics and styles that innovate

Don't think it can really innovate if it's only learning from known data. I could be wrong and i don't wanna do any more research. I think the point I'm trying to make is that its input, its dataset will always be limited. And its output will be based on the dataset used, so I'm not sure it can innovate.

If that's truly the case, I don't think AI music will ever supplant people :dunno:

I figured since there is not much on here in the way of some of the newer more underground death metal bands, I'd start this thread to share some of the more recent gems out there.

There's a huge scene in Chile, also - so many great bands out of there right now...I'll post some of them throughout this thread as time goes (Infamovs' Stench of the Unholy Graves is below and is great from start to finish

You ever heard the old band Gorod ?

It likely can. There is a Chinese AI algorithm that can synthesize data and do its own smoothing and correction. If you go back and look at where AI was for creating video in 2023 to where it is now, you will be terrified. There's also a report that the best models are now smarter than 86% or something of all humans. By october 2026 that number will be 99.9%. Here's to hoping that .1% are making death metal lol

Mortual dropped a track off their upcoming first full-length which will be released July 4th. Out of Costa Rica, this band is one of my favorite somewhat newer bands and their Evil Incarnation EP is great from start-to-finish so really looking forward to this one.

I somehow forgot to post this when it was released..two former members from the (sadly) split-up Cerebral Rot with their new band and full-length, Corpus Offal :
