New epic amp day!!!!

Well interesting experience. Not a bad amp at all. Reverb is garbage. Amp reverb is usually trash anyway…hint hint amp makers…quit fooling with onboard reverb unless it digital. Clean channel is ok. Not a fender but it’s clean…. Gain channel…. Has a lot of gain on tap. I think that’s why the amp is labeled with the can of bees moniker. I’m sure everyone especially kids maxed it out and with the amps eq curve and price point-that’s why it’s had a shit reputation. I’m surprised though because it’s not bad. Better than a shitbox Windsor. Now that’s a dead soul sucking amp right there. Of course mines been messed with inside so… anyway I’m pleasantly surprised by it. Turn the gain down and figure your volume out-then adjust the tone knobs…. Really not bad at all. Would love to try a 300h but they’re unobtainable…..

The problem with the BV 300 is they only made about 75 and a dozen guys own half of them. The other half probably paid $200-800 USD and they're looking for another. I missed one last year that came with a V30 4x12 and they wanted about $550 USD for both the BV300 head and cabinet. The ad was up for over a week and I was a day late.

A BV 300 with a live in hard case just sold for like $950 from MusicGoRound about a month ago. Every year I see one or two sold for under $1000 USD. Very hard amp to come by but it's usually priced fairly and it sounds better than most people would give it credit for.

Madasahatter has a couple I think. He’s a pimp though and he represents hard….

I have 2 of them and a BV150. Definitely a different amp than the 120. If anyone is interested in creating a clone I have a copy of the schematics.

The first BV300 I got in '05 for about $300. In August 2016 my house flooded and it sat underwater for 3 days. Figuring it was dead I was able to track down a second i early 2017 for right at $500.

I put my original one aside for several years then one day decided what the hell, lets see if by a miracle it comes on. That miracle happened and I damn near teared up hearing it play like nothing ever happened. So I ended up with two.

The tolex was shot on both. I ended up recovering both, one in that black western vinyl and the other in red snakeskin.

I still keep an eye out for any that pop up for sale. Not to buy another, but just to see what they're listing for. I generally see 1-2 pop up per year. They usually list for 1000-1500 which I think is fair enough in this gear market. Every so often you see an outrageous price of 3k, but I don't think anyone will pay anything close to that much.

Awesome tale my friend…I will give you treefiddy for it… they are so cool 😎

I got it for nothing basically. Think I will pay attention to the mod list and make a few tweaks to it. Honestly not a bad amp at all. Pretty happy about it actually.

Yeah, it's one of those amps that get a lot of crap because there's others that are subjectively better. But when it comes down to it the BV gets the job done.

A lot of the perceptions are because most people myself included owned these when they were noobs. If you keep the gain and bass dialed back a bit and boost it it can get some pretty decent sounds. Still nowhere near as good of tone as the Stealths. Those are great sounding amps.

Get a 150. They aren't as rare, and are the same exact preamp.

I had a 120 back in the day. It wasn't bad, but if I had one major complaint, it's that for 120 watts, it's not a loud amp at all. I'd be jamming with my buddy who has a 5150. The 5150 was at 2 and I had my BV120 at 7 just to keep up. It helps if you crank the mids, but IIRC, the mids weren't all that great sounding.

I have a 150.now, but if I found another 120.for cheap enough, I'd grab it for nostalgia.
