Get a 150. They aren't as rare, and are the same exact preamp.

I had a 120 back in the day. It wasn't bad, but if I had one major complaint, it's that for 120 watts, it's not a loud amp at all. I'd be jamming with my buddy who has a 5150. The 5150 was at 2 and I had my BV120 at 7 just to keep up. It helps if you crank the mids, but IIRC, the mids weren't all that great sounding.

I have a 150.now, but if I found another 120.for cheap enough, I'd grab it for nostalgia.

Having both the 150 and 300 I can attest they sound very similar. There's a little play in where BMT and Eek & Ugg are set, but for the most part I can get them to sound identical. The 300 sounds a little more full, but that's about it.

You're looking at 6L6 vs 6550 power tubes and 150 watts being the main difference. That has some part in how the low end comes out. But for the most part I would say any differences would be more due to tolerances in the components and pots.

That’s what I remember as well.

Marty endorsed the Blue Voodoo but only used the BV300 as a power amp since it was a copy of the SVT power section.

Sammy Hagar also had a signature model of the 120 called the Red Voodoo. Only difference was red tolex instead of black or blue.
