Ed had the prototype out on the last tour. It's coming.

Anyone have possible video of that?
Howard Kaplan stated that he wasn't sure if Eddie used it on the last tour. Here is a picture of the rig. It's the top amp. Howard used red badges on the EL34 prototypes.

Awesome Picture. Thank you for posting!!

Honestly if it ends up being the 5150 III LBX beefed up with EL34s I think it would satisfy a lot of what EVH tone chasers are after. Played one of those suckers a couple weeks ago and had a lot of good things to say about it, except maybe the price. Still think the LBX has more gain than it needs, but to each their own.

A) It's NOT the LBX
B) This will probably just be a 5153 with el34s considering the prototype that EVH used on the last tour for some songs

If money was not consideration for people I would reccomend The small box!

So essentially it'll be similar to a Peavey 6534+?!

; )

Unlikely since the 5153 is nothing like the 6505.

There is no need for the new EL34 amp anymore, they've putted out the MXR 5153 pedal. Ed always used a pedal for his early tone.

If the fact that the existence of this amp doesn't prove beyond all reasonable doubt that Ed's magic Marshall was modified for WAY more gain than stock I don't know what does. Every amp he's come out with since the original 5150 is hi gain...and he used the Soldano before that. Why do people insist that amp was stock ? Because Ed said so ? Please...he's a lying shill.

No, people think his amp was stock because Suhr and Fryette and whoever else worked on it said it was stock. But who knows what had been done and undone before they saw it. Fun to think about, but we'll never know other than it sure seems like there are a variety of ways to get close enough to that tone.

I asked Howard Kaplan about the prototype amp if it was a plexi circuit or a high gain circuit and he told me high gain..so that shot my hopes down for the amp

You've probably seen this before, but start at 7:04.

Didn't EVH use 6CA7's in his Marshall?
Yes SYLVANIA brand
This amp has me curious but not excited.
There better be a LOT more going on than just EL34's.
My big question is what gain structure will it have? VH I? VH II? Fair warning?
all different gain levels and will it have to be cranked to sound good?
What about the variac? will there be a built in one?

I tried the 6ca7 in my 5153 last year, even though it was not bias correct for that tube it gave the amp a much more Marshally sound

From the latest interview in the Guitar World it wasn`t used during last years tour

Ed used the 100s for the entire tour last year...this is FACT

Also, there is an EL34 amp in the making but it's been put on hold for awhile for a number of various reasons (patenting, marketing, etc.) These things take a lot of time. There was a 'prototype' made that Ed did like but they are working out all the details (and changes) along with the things I listed above
