Dear God ... Eddie's tastes are changing .... too fast !

Q: Speaking of equipment, what new EVH gear are you working on?

A: People are always screaming and yelling for that classic vintage guitar sound. The 5150 III amps are very high-gain. The main thing that we’re working on is an amp that is modeled after the old vintage Marshall that I used on the first six records. I wanted more sustain out of them.

The difference between the 5150 III amp, and this new amp we are working on is the tubes. They use EL34 tubes, which are more like my original vintage Marshall. Still trying to figure what to call it. Might call it the 5150 III-IV because they use the EL34 tubes. I told Howard Kaplan, the amp guy at Fender/EVH, what I wanted, and just last week they all came out and I gave it a test run. It blew my mind. It has the old vintage tone but with more sustain

Having EL34 in the output section does not contribute to the sound as much. If the ouptut tranny will be the same but altered to be used with EL34, it will be a usual EVH skin peel.
If it's a new completely new amp based on an old plexi, it should be called IV not III-IV.
Peavey did the same with the 6534.

Howard Kaplan is very cool you can email him he returns them all. We had a conversation about the EVH line. He asked what would you want to see from EVH?
Obviously a Marshall styled EVH El34 is the answer. Something like the BE or Helios tweaked by EVH.
They would sell an insane amount of them

Man i guess all the bitching everyone does on these forums is finally paying off!! If they come up with something like the first record it will be a gold mine for EVH.

Very cool! And I agree about Howard Kaplan. Great guy. Had an odd issue with my used early 09' 100 watt. I sent it to the him cause he really wanted to get his hands on it and check it out. While he had it he retubed and had it biased for me. Couldn't duplicate the issue I was having but first class service with those guys.

I sure hope with the new amp lineup that EVH/Fender incorporates the "Power Scaling" feature that they have currently in their combo amps into the 100w and 50w heads. This feature works amazingly well and allows almost silent operation of the amp while still sounding gigantic.

That's one of the main reasons I own the combo. And yep, sounds awesome at super low volumes

This sounds like what most people have been waiting for. A Marshall made by Fender.
I prefer EL34's so this sounds very interesting to me, especially if it is around $2000 price point.

This new amp was my idea a year ago after talking to the EVH camp and there was a " Ask Eddie a question" on his EVH gear site which I talked about my amp idea which is now a reality.
