For those not wanting to switch carriers, just unlock it and use your current SIM card.

Verizon doesn't use a sim card.

Just looked it up, and they do have SIM cards. The problem is, apparently you can only use them overseas due to the locked frequency bands. :( Oh well. You Verizon guys are screwed.  :(

not really...Verizon is the best service I've had out of 3 or 4 others so far. i never lose calls and I have service everywhere. AT&T and TMobile were the worst for my area. i have an ipod touch anyway.

omg lol.

good thing I don't ever buy apple stuff. everytime I buy something I'd feel getting ripped off cause I'd know there's something new coming out in a few months.

i work for apple and you should have seen the amount of calls we got about this phone today. Oh my god, the phone never stopped ringing.

And as far as verizon I doubt youll see it anytime soon because it would cost a lot for them to switch over to SIM cards.

As far as the phone is concerned the coolest stuff is the SDK (third party apps) some of the stuff is gonna be pretty awesome. Cant beat the pricing though on the new ones, its now comparable to a lot of the phone prices out there (non-subsidized phone costs).

Eh? Apple product cycles are slower than many companies in the computer arena and just about on par with their consumer products...sometimes a couple months late (and man, you should hear the whining then ;) )

Apple does build up amazing anticipation for their products though...people love them!

Anticipation is the key word here I think. It's a friggin iPhone man. It wouldn't bum me out when I have a Motorola Razr and V2.0 comes out a day after for half the price. It'd really suck though to have a iPhone that I got for almost half a grand which is outdated in less than a year. and you KNOW the new iPhone is gonna be 30489348 times better.

If anything I'm saying apple kicks major ass. And the reason I've stated, stupid as it sounds, is why I stay away from them. They are just too good and irresistible once you get hooked lol.

I dunno.. just my feelings.

Hell, for $200 its kind of hard to resist! Some of our pedals are worth more then that and all it does is one thing, change our tone.

My phone is from ~2004, so I think it's roughly time I upgrade. I'm still on the fence about buying one, though. I REALLY want to get a 32 gig model. Hopefully they'll offer one before the end of the year.

Just discovered the first downer on the 3G iPhone:

1. Data plan increase from $20/line to $30/line (per month)
2. Also rumored that 200 free SMS messages are no longer included in the base plans so $5 more (per month)

Thankfully, both of those won't affect me as I'll be going pay-as-you-go. I'm sick of phone contracts (and phone companies in general, but that's another story). A lot of people are still waiting for native copy/paste and mms, though. You enjoy your iPhone, btw? Any good/bad points you'd like to mention about it?

I'm sad that they didn't put a better camera in it or a possibility for video recording or multimedia-messaging. DVB-H would've been nice too. So Nokia's N95 (1 year old model), not to even mention N96, still take the pot home with technical specs, me thinks.

I might buy the new iPhone as soon as they break the "mobile operator lock" so that I can use it with my present operator...

Lack of copy and paste is about the only major downer...but I'm not a typically phone user/addict...I only phone/SMS occasionally...for me it's all about mail and the internet on the go and for that it works wonders....the 3G speeds will only improve on that for me.

The video playback is pretty high quality too...altho' I've only ever really used it for the odd YouTube and pr0nz :D

The speaker phone quality is average is about the only other complaint...too low volume to use in anything but a quiet environment.

$30 a month? Fuck that. Although I suppose I could hack it and not activate it through itunes

I'm not a big fan of AT&T but I have sprint and cant wait to get rid of the fuckers.

I'm down with the new iPod

Sorry to burst everybodys bubble, but the new $199 price tag is the price WITH a new 2-year service contract. You have to buy one for activation at AT&T stores or the apple store. No more at home sim activation. Who knows what the price AT&t will sell them for without the contract, probobly still around $399 - $499. This means to purchase one without an phone upgrade or a new contract will be very difficult.

Why doesn't the iphone have multimedia messaging, It kinda defeats the purpose of having a camera on the phone? Does anyone know if this will be changing?

The iPhone, stock, does not have MMS because Apple feels email is superior. However, there are programs that allow you to do it, assuming your phone is Jailbroken. There are also programs that can allow you to have copy and paste.

The relative expense compared to the increase in performance is negligible.

I just got off the phone with my wife and we decided that we're going to switch to AT&T. Verizon's service has gone down the tubes and is not worth the premium. And all of their phones suck.
