New Pickups!

Swapped a couple of Pariah Pasadena series pickups into a pair of my slap-together partscasters. I used a Pasadena White in my maple bodied guitar and a Pasadena Black in the roasted ash guitar. Both turned out fantastic.
I really dig lower DCR pick ups in denser heavier, body guitars, and a little bit more DCR in a lighter weight body guitar.

I think Pariah has been around quite a while - but production is low and from what I understand, wait times can be long. I tend to buy all my gear 'previously enjoyed' - so I just wait to see what I am looking for floating around here on the forum classifieds or on Reverb / eBay.

I have a couple of Duncan Custom Shop '78s - which is the same vibe the Pasadena White is after. I honestly find the Pasadena to sound and feel just a bit bigger and punchier than the Duncan '78 while still retaining that low DCR P.A.F. clarity.

My take on the Padadena Black from the Pariah website is that it is Paraiah's take on the Custom Shop Frankenstein pickup. I finally sourced a Custom Shop Frankenstein from a forum member here in the classifieds and it is one of the best sounding pickups I have ever tried. Very different pickup than the Duncan Custom with the A2 mag. And also very different than the EVH branded Frankenstein or the Jalen Franky. So I am eager to put the Pasedena Black through its paces and see how it stacks up against the Custom Shop Frankenstein.

I have both. The Black has more body and the White is more slice and cut. Great pickups

The slightly darker one is 'Roasted' Northern Ash from Chris Locke. I was really surprised at how much weight roasting takes out of the heavy Northern Ash. I knoew it would take out some - but wow. It now weighs about as much as Swamp Ash - but it definitely has its own tonal character.

The lighter one is 'Big Leaf' Maple from Warmoth. Warmoth doesn't offer Heavy Northern Ash, and I figured Maple would be the closest thing. It weighs a ton. But it really sounding nothing like the Northern Ash bodied guitars I have. It was a bit finicky with pickups once I had it together - I tried a Duncan '78 and it was a bit bright and thin. But the maple sounds incredible with the Pasadena White.

I have a 2009/9 Warmoth maple body I used for my Jake E Lee guitar. It's heavy but I don't find it too bright but I'm running a charvel brass hardtail and I'm sure the brass warms things up quite alot plus being thru body strings. I'm running a Holdworths AH-1 which is pretty much a JB with all screw heads for the poles. Overall it's a good sounding playing guitar, not sure if I would get another maple body though.

I LUV my 2009 musikraft Northern Ash Franky, I got a straight 12" radius MK neck with the Wolfgang or SRV back profile I can't remember... and both were flawless. I've been kicking around doing another Northern Ash Musikraft build...........

I am a big fan of the actual Duncan Custom Shop Frankenstein pickup. I have it in an Alder Single Hum San Dimas Style body with a very nice neck from Butalla. That guitar has a Floyd and the Frankenstein brings back some of the body and punch that a lower DCR pickup can lose in a 2-point fulcrum trem guitar. The Pasadena Black is in the lighter Roasted Ash with the 6-screw trem, so it is not an 'apples to apples' comparison, but I really do like the Pasadena Black.
