here's the amp doing "metal"

Sounds fine for Mastodon or old school stuff. Doesn't seem right for tight thrash or technical death metal IMO.

Isn't this the amp thats "your take" on a SLO, Recto circuit ? Thats what you said in another thread, possibly on another forum. If you even hint that it might be in the Recto direction, you're going to get input from metal dudes. I said it sounded good, just not for certain styles of metal.

Plus his Wizard covers the vintage vibe already. Not sure what that has to do with it. Did someone tell him to buy Dougs new amp and sell his Wizard?

There's not many amps that can convincingly nail a modern and vintage vibe simultaneously. My Wizard can, I thought it was an interesting point to bring up, since you like both those qualities it seems. Maybe this new Rocca can do it too, all the more power to Doug & whomever gets one. I'm simply hearing far more vintage qualities in these clips, as opposed to modern. Neither is better. As for your second point, no.

I got your back on this one. You didnt say anything rude or untoward and for anyone who listens to a lot of metal it does make a big difference what kind of attack/saturation and tone your going for. If someones going to intimate that their amp can do metal, that's a pretty broad stroke. I wouldn't use a Recto or Diezel to do Iron Maiden or other NWOBHM and I wouldn't use an old Marshall to do Killswitch Engage or Slipknot etc. Ultimately where all entiltled to our own opinion, especially if someone posts "check out my amp" on a public forum. FWIW, I also think the amp sounds pretty damn nice.

I think that's fair.
When we're talking soundclips they really are subject to the player and type of recording. Most of the metal high gain clips we hear on messageboards
are gated, EQ'd, compressed ect.... on and on.... What does the amp really sound like without all this? That's all I'm really interested in. The amp does focus on more of a vintage tone, and I'm happy you're hearing that.
Doug

I think the amp sounds awesome, it is not doing the same tired over compressed BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA and has a very cool vibe to it.
