Ha! Flying in a Blue Dream... yeah. Back in those days, that album was a compromise because you had to tolerate the singing to hear all the guitar wizardry. Kind of like the queer singing in Eric Johnson's Desert Rose -- one of the most badass solos ever played, but over one of the gayest songs ever written -- I always fast forward over the vocals and go right to the solos.

My friend Rob Keeley actually used to do a modded pedal for him and Vai.

The new tune is awesome!! I'm looking forward to this new release. After all of these years I still have never tried one of his Ibanez sigs. Just never found one to play. I doubt I would own one at this point but I think they look cool. I know a lot of people don't love his guitar tone but I like it. I don't necessarily try to cop his tone but I am definitely a Marshall guy. I am working on a couple of more Satriani cover videos. I'll always be a fan of his. He has had the biggest influence on me as a guitarist. I don't sound like him but I have a few certain things I do from an improvisational standpoint that I incorporate into my playing. Glad to see other players like him as much as I do.

I have 3. One was modded by Keeley, another was modded by a guy that claimed his mods were best, and the third, and the one I like the most, is an early 80's MIJ model. The one complaint with these is that they have a very narrow window on the gain/tone adjustments before they become too shrill and nasally, especially through a Marshall.

The first time I saw him on SWTA, he was using a Chandler Tube driver into a Marshall. I got one and it sounded totally different into my Marshall
That was the 300th time that had happened, I'm probably into 4 digits now

His tech told me that every time he'd want to use the MEZZABARBA amps, he'd say...get the Italian one. Shortly after that, i got a call to bring a couple MEZZABARBA amps to Vai, Steve heard that these amps where worth trying.
