What do you guys think?

There's a lot of low gain tones, and it doesn't seem to be mixed very guitar forward. It seems legit so far. I keep thinking that everything is about Brent.

Midway into my second full listen, and I gotta say I love the more pronounced middle Eastern vibe on the album.

Is it just me, or does the keyboard on "The Three Fates" sound like it's straight out of In a Silent Way/Bitches Brew era Miles Davis?

i just cant with these dudes anymore, it just sounds like some sort of circus fun house music that drives me nuts after a few songs. Not really heavy anymore, the drummer is just way too busy all the time and theres no groove, the singing is not good I do like their first couple albums, and they are one of those bands i want to like probably for nostalgia reasons, but one spin of this album was enough

I’m with you on the drummer! Way too busy with the snare in particular

I liked the singles more than the album, which definitely isn't the norm for Mastodon. It's still alright, but I don't feel compelled to listen for something I missed on the first go.

Mastodon albums grow on me over time. Usually a few listens while at the gym. I pretty much get hooked on a riff somewhere in song and then it sticks. That is often the case with complicated arrangements.

That’s how I felt about them since the beginning. Some friends talked me into buying Remission after it came out, hated it on the first listen. A year later it was one of my all time favorites, still is to this day.

They were definitely on a hot streak the next 4 albums as well.

Mastadon have never put it together for me for entire albums, even though they definitely have some songs I like. Gotta say I really dug the first two songs so far. I always liked Brent’s lead playing a lot but I think they nailed down the arrangements and vocal melodies a little better on this one with what I’m hearing so far. They’ve definitely embraced the 70’s a lot on this one.

I definitely found that the most solid listen for an entire album by Mastadon yet.

Aint bad, I listened to the album a couple times over the weekend and i like it. They are a good band but not a band i can listen to daily, i take the urge for them and listen to a few albums for a couple weeks and then get tired and need a break for a few months.

There’s probably a wide gamet of feelings and memories for someone like Hinds that you spent all those years with. Love, frustration, brotherhood to even some anger. I would expect the songs to have a few different themes when they regard him.
