Is that just a reflection or is the body kinda cut back where the neck plate area is for better upper fret access?

It is cut back ie contoured. Makes higher fret access so much better.

You can opt to not have it done but it truly is cool. Its one thing I wish my Charvel Music Zoo had. Nothing worse than getting to the higher register and running out of room. Its also why I got the SS2 over the SS1. The SS1 mimics the charvel body more closely where as the SS2 is a dinky body. They are about the same except the "horns" on the body of the SS2 allow for more access to higher register.

Of course that being said Im already plotting my next purchase...the SS1.
