New Suhr guitar Day

I just got a Suhr Modern M8 in Bengal Burst.

It's a wee bit heavy for a basswood guitar, but it plays & sounds supa dupa...

Have you weight your guitar? Mine is almost 9lbs which is a lot for basswood. My other basswood super strat is 7lbs.

I haven't weighed it, but it doesn't seem very heavy....very comparable to my Alder/Maple neck Modern or my Honduras Mahogany/Curly Koa top /Pau Ferro neck Modern. But, all of them feel heavy compared to my extremely light African Mahogany "Satin" Modern.

I have a Modern satin as well & it weights under 7lbs. The Basswood modern weighs over 9lbs. I was hoping it would weight roughly the same as the satin, since basswood is normally a very light wood. Oh well.....

congrats - i love suhr guitars!

i think the Satins tend to be pretty light (seen a lot even less than 7lbs).

close to 9lbs does seem pretty heavy for a Basswood Modern - but as long as its not too much when wearing/playing, i wouldnt worry about it.

Well, you got me curious so I went and weighed my basswood Modern on my bathroom scale. It came in at 7.5 lbs. My Satin Modern weighs exactly 6 lbs., as advertised by the dealer.

Who would've thought an all mahogany guitar would weigh less than Basswood. I'm looking into an Ash Modern, but dread the possible weight concerns.

If Suhr uses swamp ash, and i believe they do, it will typically be very light

Have you played an Ash modern before? Do they tend to sound high endy with scooped mids & a tad sizzly on the top?

My Modern is alder with a maple top. I have owned three swamp ash guitars. While the mids are softer the high end is beautiful sounding. I love swamp ash!

I have a modern that is basswood with a maple top and I LOVE it. it plays so good, there is an effortless quality to playing it that I have not felt on very many other guitars. Mine is a light Bengal burst and it is also very beautiful. What a combo, it plays amazing, it sounds absolutely spectacular, and it looks real bad ass. one of my friends who does not play guitar said it looked fast to him. I don't exactly know what he meant by it, but that's a pretty cool description by a non guitar player. Suhr are really killer guitars, and I love mine. They also make killer amps and pedals!! great company! they only release stuff that rules!

also, the ssh+ bridge pup, and the ssv neck pup are great pickups. I usually pull the pups in guitars I get and replace them, but the pups that came in my modern are amazing. I also got a les paul a while back that had a wolfetone dr vintage in the bridge and that is a great pup for a les paul!
