Been a fan of Sylosis since their first album which I vastly prefer over the second one. This seems promising.

Congrats, Dan. You do excellent work. Next time I am in London we have to get together.

+1

I love the band but I dunno if they will be able to top Conclusion of an Age. The singer on that one was a perfect fit, and with Josh on guitar only the riffage was much more interesting.

Still, can't wait to jam the new one!

Dan,

Does Josh still boost your modded amp with a TS?
Also what speaker does he use?

Josh uses a Maxon OD-9 as a clean boost (Gain on zero, Level on 10), basically to boost the output of the pickups and hit the front end a bit harder.
With the modded JCM800 he uses the TS. I don't know if he uses the TS with the modded JMP though, as it has quite a bit more gain on tap and it has more of a boosted feel anyway.

His Orange 4x12 has V30's in it, and his Marshall 4x12 is a 1960TV which is loaded with Reissue Greenback 25w speakers.

Dan,

you have one or two pics to share of his 800?

Here's a pic of Josh's modded 800 and JMP  Both amps look stock from the front panel, but modded on the back panel. The 800 has a push/pull Master, which boosts the gain. Also has a Depth control on the back panel.

The JMP has the regular 2203 style control layout on the front panel, with a Push/Pull Bass control which acts as a Tone-Shift (switches between a pushed midrange like a Plexi or slightly more modern lower midrange). Then on the back panel it's got a Tube Buffered Series FX Loop, Gain control with push/pull 'Edge' switch, Violence control, Glass control and Depth control with push/pull 'Thump' switch.

The JCM800 is a 'modded' amp, whereas the JMP is more of a rebuilt amp where i ripped out almost all of the stock circuitry and added the new circuitry.

 thanks Dan!

You did not keep the 2 gain controls ala Cali mod?

On the 800 it only has the 1 gain control, and the 2nd control is preset internally with resistors instead of a pot.

The JMP has the 2 gain controls, plus the Violence control which is a gain control for the extra tube stage.

No that's a much older video before Josh was using my mods. I modified the first amp (JCM800) for Josh in 2011, and he started using it about a week before they played at 'Download' Festival on the main stage

Thanks Dan!
Your sylosis mod is :inlove: to and for me...

BTW what gear Josh used to record the album conclusion of an Age? TS and thunderverb and V30?

Killer band, killer playing, killer mod

Nicely done Dan that sounds awesome

he's changed his entire rig several times
he had a jcm 2205 and a thunderverb 50 around edge of the earth era, but before that, I think he had peaveys
I'm almost sure I saw a video of him recording with a triple xxx, a 5150 and a krank years ago
just found out that he recorded with a JVM as well
by that time I had a peavey rockmaster preamp that could get pretty close to his old tones
he had a peavey jsx too
I remember he had a esp eclipse with emgs, then bare knuckles, then some sort of esp superstrat (michael wilton?) with emgs, then the les paul access (first stock, then with bare knuckles) and the firebird
hope he sticks to the gower marshalls

I'll try to find the videos

edit:
this one makes me feel VERY frustrated about my playing

found at ultimate metal forum that Josh used a 5150 (MKII) with a TS808, greenbacks and emg81 for conclusion of an age album...

Dan, would the fortin modded dsl could get that sound?

http://www.rig-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=40652&hilit=fortin+dsl

Are you asking if the Fortin modded DSL would sound close to Josh's old 5150 rig? I don't think it would sound close at all.. The DSL, even modded, is night and day different to a 5150.

:aww:
so witch amp, modded or not, could do it, but without the need of the TS? 5150....III :D ....JVM?

Killer Kali ;)

but... what's the big deal about just using a ts9? :D

and why the killer kali over the sylosis mod?
jose master? more gain stages? tighter tone?

The Sylosis Mod is 3 stages. The KK is 4 stages so there is a lot more gain on tap. And it has a little extra compression happening which makes it feel boosted already.. So no need for the TS-9.

you mentioned the JCM having the sylosis mod as a cali variation, and the JMP being a killer kali++ variation
doesn't that make the JMP a sylosis++? :scared:

don't you have actual non-produced clips of those particular amps? :D

Haha not exactly. The circuitry and voicing of the Sylosis Mod is pretty different to the Killer Kali. Josh didn't want two identical sounding amps, so that's why we went with the Killer Kali circuit in the JMP.

I don't have any clips of the Sylosis Mod JCM800, but there are plenty of Killer Kali clips around.. Jason (Killertone) recorded a whole bunch of clips with his Killer Kali, which is 99% the same circuit as Josh's modded JMP. There's several other Killer Kali clips floating around on youtube etc
