New Tool

I love the new album.

I also love the fact that all Tool albums are quite different from one another. They don't kinda skate with the "what was successful before will sell again" mentality. This album is very different indeed from the anything else in their catalogue. I like it a lot - and it's an immersive experience, something I tend to want to listen to "at length", not just a song here or there. Although there are some standouts for sure. They've gone uber deep with shamanic rhythms and patterns, timings, etc. - it's mesmerizing and complex.

One thing that was obvious to me was that AJ has definitely been playing a lot of guitar in the last 13 years   He's ramped up his game significantly... And Danny?? Jesus. Actually, Chancellor also blows the doors off. MJK, a little more restrained and nuanced.

Hey, it's a different album - it's definitely all "Tool" - and it's incredible. Been listening to it daily since its release, I keep finding new things in it - that's the beauty of Tool.

I listen to the album twice the day it came out and not since. I have yet to see a copy for sale in a store.

I like it. I had a tough time getting through it at first. I bought "Fear" and Korn's "The Nothing" at the same time. I love both bands pretty much equally and always have from the moment they hit the scene. Now, "The Nothing" is my kind of mind blowing music and "Fear" was, um, vastly different.

1) It's different, which makes it good to listen to and relax after listening to something great that pumps me up.
2) Dan's drumming is really good, he puts his all into every song. Great real drum sound, whether it is or isn't.
3) Adam plays a lot of licks from other guitarist which made me say, "hey, I play that one too", and his mid gain tone is interesting, as is his slide/wah work. His overall wah work is superb.
4) The freaky ambient stuff, about a quarter of the album, is not that bad, really, it could be worse!
5) It's better than nothing. C'mon man, they told us that the tank was empty. "I'm trying to think and nothing is happening". I credit them, they were at least able to come up with something.

After 20+ listens, I'd give it about 3 out of 5 stars.

I still haven't seen a disc anywhere. But admit I quit looking a long time ago.

Yup, same here. If they'd release a regular CD of the album in my neighborhood i'd have bought one, but nothing.... I guess it's kinda funny that I still buy CD's from my fav artists... being as obsolete as cd's are.

Their dynamic is living in different cities, kids, etc. It's not like they're young, chasing pussy/going out all the time, competing for MTV/Radio play, hard at work on their esoteric/occult mystery studies, etc. They're middle aged guys with hip replacements and wives and vineyards and shit.

It's still better than what most any of us will ever do.

Nice to still have them around and beastly live, get to grow and evolve with them in our space/time. Fuckin' Tool, man.

Fuckin' Tool.

Even got my fresh new Hot Topic $12 Lateralus shirt on right now. Any o' y'all try and buy a T-Shirt at a Tool show? Hehe.
