I love the new album.
I also love the fact that all Tool albums are quite different from one another. They don't kinda skate with the "what was successful before will sell again" mentality. This album is very different indeed from the anything else in their catalogue. I like it a lot - and it's an immersive experience, something I tend to want to listen to "at length", not just a song here or there. Although there are some standouts for sure. They've gone uber deep with shamanic rhythms and patterns, timings, etc. - it's mesmerizing and complex.
One thing that was obvious to me was that AJ has definitely been playing a lot of guitar in the last 13 years
He's ramped up his game significantly... And Danny?? Jesus. Actually, Chancellor also blows the doors off. MJK, a little more restrained and nuanced.
Hey, it's a different album - it's definitely all "Tool" - and it's incredible. Been listening to it daily since its release, I keep finding new things in it - that's the beauty of Tool.
