Their new tele with p-90s is real interesting. I had an Xaviere. Good guitar but the neck was finished with something that was just too sticky. I tried to steel wool the back and it never got very smooth.

Yeah,

Someone asked Jay if the necks were sticky on these and he said they weren't. I guess I will find out when I get it.

I get it today and I will be glad to post a review when I get it with some clips.

Got my XV600 Sea Foam Green with P90's today. Here goes my impression of this guitar.

The Bad
1. The tuners are really shitty, they are hard to turn and grind some, but hold tune. I am buying new ones tomorrow to replace them.

2. A little buff through around the F-fole but it is acceptable to me and I could care less but it has to be counted in this column.

3. As someone else stated the slots in the nut seem cut to close to each other which makes it a little tight to play on the lower frets but I manage fine since I have small fingers and hands.

4. Low strings sound a little woofy to me, could be the crappy strings that come on it.

5. One of the frets is tarnished in a spot, nothing that brass-o won't clean up though.

6. Not quite enough twang for me, but really good for blues.

Positives
1. The neck and frets feel great, no sharp frets and the frets are dressed nicely.

2. It has a nice warm open sound since it is a hollow body guitar.

3. The P90s sound pretty darn good when cranked and clean. Would like a little more brightness spank though. But for p90's they sound good.

4. The finish and paint looks great overall except the small places around the f hole.

Overall do I think it is worth $179 I would say yes but they could have used better tuners on them and still probably kept the price the same. Also need to make sure the slot spacing on the nuts are being cut right seem narrow to me.

Would I buy another one of these guitars, does it blow me away? Well I really like the sound of the guitar, but will probably stop with one of them. I already have to many guitars. If there is such a thing of having to many. To me to many is 12.

Do they use those Wilkenson "locking" tuners? The type with two holes in the post to twist the string through? I've used those before and seen them on better quality guitars and they seem pretty good.

What do you think of the finish on the neck? Is it a satin finish like Jay described or is it sticky like other Xaviere necks? That was the biggest problem with my Xav.

I actually really love the sound of the guitar now. I did some clips of it today I will post them below.

No the tuners aren't the Wilkinson locking tuners. They are the only thing I don't like about this guitar, they are some cheap tuners that are hard to turn, but they do hold tune quite well. I will probably eventually replace them. I tried to find some today but no guitar store in Charlotte sells friggin six in line tuners other than sperzels and I ain't putting those on it. So I will have to order some from the web.

The neck feels really good to me, the frets are finished really nicely with no sharp ends. The neck is not a satin finish, instead the neck has a clear coat on it like the old fender necks. However my hand slides pretty darn good up and down the neck. I will probably take some 400 grit sandpaper to it though to make it slicker. But I wouldn't consider it sticky by no means.

Played this guitar at a gig tonight and it sounded unreal. I am very happy with the tone of this guitar.

Thank You songman68!

I loved your clips on the Xavfiere Xv-600. I espeically liked the clean neck PU sound and the distorted bridge PU sound...It is indeed a very beautiful guitar. I am about to place an order on one. I already own several guitars, mostly modified strats, but you know how it is. I do not have a semi hollow body guitar (or P90s pickups) other than my Dean Boca 12 string electric with "feather holes" or whatever they are called...

What I plan on doing with this guitar: Well since Im thinking of recording a few eclectic ideas, I'd like to use it for some slide work as well as for clean and semi dirty leads in parts of songs and only on ceratin songs. The idea is to get a totally different sound than what I get with the other guitars. I own a '52 telecaster (re-issue) so no sense in trying to get that sound...And my other axes are for shredding anyway.

I'm glad I found this place to talk gear and trade ideas. I came about Rig talk as I was looking for info on the XV600.

Its hard to find a lot of info on this guitar anywhere online right now. I just love the way it looks and the crafsmanship thats gone into such a low budget guitar. I trust Jay because he has put a lot of effort into his guitars and company. Ive played a couple of other models before and was surprised at how good they sound and feel. I just like to read as much info as I can before I buy something my local music stores don't carry. I have a show to play at Yakima's Sundome in January, so I'm hoping my hand will heal up soon (carpal tunnel) and I'll be able to take this axe out there! I'll have to post some of my own clips when I get XV-600 :)

Well thanks again, And I hope to hear more from you and the rest of the guys/gals here.

Peace, Alex in Tri-Cities, WA[/color]

I just bought some Sperzels. What's the complaint for those. I also just bought the guitar, though with Dream 180s. Really looking forward to it. Anyone have a good site for a tute onhow to install a push-pull pot so I can get single coil tones, too?
